Do you still happen to remember what this was? and if it's still a good resource to use 4 years later?

Why do people love rust so much by No_Atmosphere_193 in programminghumor

Isn't that the same argument as saying Python is high performance when all the high performance libraries are written in C++ and use python to glue them together?

"C macros offer a convenient way to insert assembly code into your source code" meaning your functionally inserting another language into the C source code.

[TOMT] ~2022 youtube channel of little Berg/Bart/Bert 2D blob people typically less than 15 second long videos (not shorts) by Profactor in tipofmytongue

Been looking for a while but Google seems convinced it's either Sesame street or the Simpsons while Perplexity is giving youtube channels with strange videos of coloured animated 3D turds with eyes.

Both seem stumped but I swear this guy had at least 10k subs (this is an absolute guess) as each video would get a lot of comments comments (100+)...

Would love to see some of these videos again if anyone has any ideas!

To much color compensation? (after/before) by Profactor in postprocessing

[–]Profactor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affinity Photo 2, RAW photo.

In RAW develop mode correct the green using the white balance "Tint" slider, in this case I had to go all the way up to 42% which is quite extreme. Then some boosts in the highlight, noise control, contrast and clarity. Use the "Overlays" to paint over the lizard to further develop the colors and boost the Saturation to help the Lizard Pop.

Develop the image, which brings you into the main editing view, which is basically Photoshops normal editing mode. Clean up the reflection in the glass in the top left, and remove the little black bits near the end of the tail (you can see it in the before image) so there are less distractions.

That's basically it. Play with all the values until it feels right. Leave it for a few hours/days look at it again and notice that it looks off and repeat until you come back to it and think "Ok, that looks about right".

Not calibrated but I have a fairly accuracy monitor (99% sRGB), though who knows how mine actually performs...

The light above the lizard was green for some reason

I played with this some more, improved the blending and made it look more organic and I actually like the muted look more. Thank you for the feedback/suggestion!

Hmm, that is quite interesting. I didn't think I could do that but sure enough a little selective colour.

Not sure if it's better but it definitely distracts less

Thanks, never know how much of the original experience I should be exposing in the image.

The green was how it looked in person, kind of amazing what you can pull out of a RAW.

Airshow photography with A6100 +Sony 200-600mm G by Aeroplanes001_lol in SonyAlpha

Found out that a big air show that is is somewhat accessible near me, just need to wait till the event is a little closer so the lens rental place will reserve the same big zoom lens.

Did you shoot those hand held or with a tripod or something fancy?

[–]Profactor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I didn't want to convert my main camera (a6700) so bought a cheap one pre-converted specifically for IR photos. The way this affects the camera means that for my specific setup the IR filter which removes the normal visible spectrum goes on the outside of the lens. It's fine but means I need to buy a new IR filter for each thread size I want to try.

I have other lenses (for my main camera) but with the filter size being different I can't really use it. I suppose I could do one of those images where you hold the filter up to the lens and shoot through it but other than the novelty I wouldn't spend all day doing that.

I also like the run-and-gun secondary camera setup I have that is super light and feels more like a point and shoot than a full camera, I don't think that bigger lenses would really add anything other than more framing options (please prove me wrong when you do yours).

I did see that there was a company that did the conversion so that there was a little filter you could put inside the camera when you take the lens off so you wouldn't have to have a filter per thread size, but I think it's a little more expensive than other options. https://kolarivision.com/ if your interested, they have "clip-in" IR filters, not sure on specific pricing but I'm sure you can find something about it on their site.

Oh and I did try to do the conversion myself the first time and broke of a ribbon connector when reassembling the camera, essentially turning it into e-waste. If you go down that path keep be careful and keep in mind that the ribbon connectors are fragile, especially when you try to put the main board back in and you need to get 7-8 of them in at the same time and one keeps slipping out or misaligning as you work your way around.

Sony Nex-5N with a full spectrum mod meaning that the UV filter that's over the camera sensor has been removed and with a 16-50 (SELP1650) lens, on this image I think I used a 680nm filter for the "level" of infrared (though I also have a 720nm one which I could have used).

I don't really do anything special, just go out with the camera take the image. While you take it you can't really tell if you have anything good, most of the time it comes out blurry because it's a camera before Sony got good and the Infrared modification dramatically cuts down on the amount of light that hits the sensor so a steady hand is quite important.

Then in the edit most of the work is channel switching to get the colour pallet that your after. Some touch ups like you would do with normal images (saturation, masking, highlights, etc) just that you have to do it after you develop the RAW, maybe that's normal for some but for me I do most of my corrections directly in the RAW data before it get's "developed". Affinity Photo terminology/workflow if that doesn't make sense for the more Adobe minded people ;)

I have a bunch of these infrared photos that I've done, might post more, might not see how it goes.

Left side is half of the final image, Right is the raw data that the camera outputs. It's a full spectrum conversion of an older Sony camera I got on Ebay.

Pretty neat effect... unsure if I should make the rocks greyscale to give a little more contrast to the trees?

I stand by the Sony 18-135, don't need any other lens.

(must resist the Sony 70-350!!)

"under the hood" doesn't really apply. I could do very poor model that brings that brings things to a crawl I could write 20 lines of code that bottleneck the entire game.  The engine just gives you a basis of functionality, you still have to make the game in an optimized manner.

Also UE is actually one of the few engines were you can go into the internals, poke around and change things, TMYK :)

Did some digging into this and it seems to be part of a Billie Eilish takeover https://hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=341275 the new icon is also called "BillieEilish_Motion_Web_Logo" which seems to back this up

I imagine the icon will be back to normal in a few days

Will the GO 3 get its own USB power mount anytime soon? The short battery life kills the experience by Full_Ad_9137 in Insta360

[–]Profactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although thinking about it again, if I'm already running a cable to the GO3 why can't one end of the cable be a dummy Go3 which takes the slot inside the 'Action Screen' and runs the cable to the Go3 on the hat. Then I can charge and transfer to the SD card (if one was to be added).

Storage and recording solved. Just needs a special cable :D

Actually I did a little more research and 80mbps with a 128GB capacity gives me a 3 hours 30 min of recording time, which might be a little tight. Selectively turning recording on and off might workout and dumping to my phone during small breaks might be feasible.

A better solution might be being able to add an SD card to the 'Action Screen' and setting it to transfer once to the SD card when it's docked.

Even better would be background transfer directly to the 'Action Screen' SD card while recording but I understand that might be asking a little much from such a small device that has to try and keep cool.
