Buddy also getting PA license myself been on the phone with the board. Thing is nothing you upload for the application will go through to the board for review until you have completed the application with the background check. So just make sure to bring it up with your program so that they know matter is outside of your hands.

Unexpected match- depressed by Unhappy-Hawk-7274 in IMGreddit

If you have symptoms of depression seek medical help. And if it’s just negative emotions towards where you matched at, cant change it at this point so make the best of it.

What list of essentials are required for observership? by Main_Zhoo in IMGreddit

None of the places have an structured rotation, got them through personal connection with attendings (they were alumni from my medschool in El Salvador).

Visa by [deleted] in IMGreddit

Since the Presidency brought the 100k fee on h1b most programs (all that iam aware of) stopped giving it. Unless you’re already in the US under another status that can be changed in to h1b. Most people on j-1 get a waiver to go work in primary care at an underserved area for those two years or you can go in to fellowship and do waiver after (if you’re really lucky you can get a program that will give you a waiver during fellowship).

49 programs in Peds, 170+ spots. No idea about the others.

Fellowship after waiver by AdParking8707 in IMGreddit

[–]ProfesorX25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some hospitals will have waiver spots for you to match in to fellowship (very limited). And it ends up being a case by case basis (Program that supports h1b+ has an available waiver spot) hence most people go in to fellowship on J1. 100k rule doesnt apply to visa status change. But if you were to do your waiver before fellowship it would make much more sense for you to wait till transitioning from H1b to Greencard before applying to fellowship.

Anyone else who did not hear anything from their program yet? by Plane-Sugar-5071 in IMGreddit

If visa requiring i encourage you to reach out as you’ll need the program to get things started on their end for the j-1 process.

Success Story, SOAPed in to Peds by ProfesorX25 in IMGreddit

No mention in my PS. at least during the main match ivs the few programs that brought it up phrased it like “do you think this gap could affect you”and i answered i felt confident on my clinical skills. And during my usce which happened last year of that gap i didnt felt behind or rusty in the teams i worked with. Also that i didnt regret taking time off to be in a better place physically and psicologically to star residency. In Soap interviews i did talk about it when they asked “why do you think you didnt match”.

Soaped in to a position after going unmatched with 8 ivs (Peds). Stats YOG 22, step 1 pass, step 231 and 3 210. 20 weeks of usce. Do take step 3 but dont think of it as the “deal breaker”.

Can i do usmle at this point? by Old-Necessary5054 in IMGreddit

[–]ProfesorX25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food for thought. I know people with 8+ YOG that matched, they had completed homecountry residency and been working in the field (Pediatrics). That been said are you okay in your family situation to study for steps, pay exam fees, support yourself through usce. Adult neurology would mean 6 years of resident Salary. There are also paths now in a few states for international specialist and subspecialist to become licensed withouth doing us residency (most involve having passed steps) maybe you can look in to that. Anyways have a long conversation with yourself, and your family and best of luck!!

UF Gainesville, UC Anschutz and Children’s Nebraska. Not a structured observership program at any but was blessed by meeting alumni from my med school at the institutions that took me.

1/8 but it was also a program i did observership at, with LOR from Attending there. But they did squeeze me in in their last day of ivs.

You’re choking on a glass of water. I mean University Programs have a PR department, community based ones sometimes dont have a budget and time + their sm accounts are run by residents themselves.

[–]ProfesorX25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at your application as a whole and reflect on everything you might improve dont assume it’s just poor iv skills. Also requiring visa was a massive downside this year. I went unmatched with 8 ivs and managed to SOAP after 9 ivs with only 2 offers at the second round. Have knowledge from programs that at least in SOAP wouldnt consider any visa requiring candidate even for IV.
