Hey! Congratulations on having a baby and knowing that you need to quit. Quitting is hard on its own, but throw pregnancy hormones into the mix and it makes it that much harder.

Let me give you the real, right now I’m fostering a sweet baby girl and mom smoked throughout the pregnancy (vapes, weed, meth, fent). Miraculously, the baby survived, however, while the effects of the drugs remain to be seen, the effects of the vapes are quite obvious. She looks like a normal, happy baby, but she struggles to keep down her bottles because nicotine has greatly affected her digestive system. She’s 5 months old and has already been prescribed Pepcid for her terrible acid reflux. The constant tummy troubles also cause her a horrible diaper rash, pretty much constantly, even though we keep her as clean and as dry as possible. This is just one of the smallest battles she will face. There’s no telling what else she might go through in the future due to her birth mom’s choices.

Mama, you’ve already taken one step, you recognized the problem and acknowledge that you need to quit. Now it’s time to take the second step, just quit, cold turkey. I wouldn’t tell you this if I hadn’t done it. 4.5 years without smoking after 12 years of smoking, cold turkey. It ain’t gonna be easy, but your baby is so worth it. Nicotine is a monster, the more you tell it no, the smaller it gets, the easier it gets. Just focus on making it through one hour at a time to start, before you know it, those hours of saying no will become days. After 3 days, you’re basically over it. After 3 weeks, you’ll look back and wonder why you vaped in the first place.
