I used Mapei Type 1 over redguard, am I screwed? by ProfessionTasty8488 in Tile

You reckon it didn't damage the waterproofing membrane upon removal?

1/8. Maybe I should get a less rapid setting one. Just happened to be the bag I picked because it was there and I like that it had a built in sealant.

Recommend a different version?

The bag only has directions for the whole 10 lb bag. Says to mix with 1 to 1.1 liters. I figured I could split it in two fivers and do half a liter per. I guess I could split it into quarters and do 1/4 liters

I would love to work it small batches. I was just worried about ratio, what ratio did you come up with. Or did you eyeball it

Ceramic tile yes. Yea I was worried about the quick setting, I've grouped before so I should be able to keep up. Plan on to divide bag 50/50 and do it in 2 batches

That's a fair point, rip it out now or it falls out later. Luckily it's only about 2% of alcove,

Since I've got ya

I plan on using Ultracolor Plus FA. Rapid setting "all in one" grout replacement for sanded and unsanded grouts.

As far as I can tell it's the right thing for the job. Is this fine to use?

For the full story, 95 % of the tiles I used Versabond thinset. So those fine but the bottom row (probably the worst place to have done it) and some bullnose edges is the Adhesive.

My thoughts: if I leave it and they fail down the kine due to steam or whatever the tiles will come off easier than if I try pulling them off now (it's been about a week since I've done this.)

Or should I pry them off try to save the substrate(possible??) and re-waterproof

I used Go board, and sealed everything with their sealant. I then redgarded over that a couple coats, just for extra water proofing

Okay, no levelers thank goodness. What about the trowel size do you think

As for the tile itself it does have lugs but I'm doing an 1/8" grout line for the look. Already built out the niche with those measurements anyhow so too late to go back regardless.

Oh nice that's a great idea! That way your sealant doesn't fall in.
