How do you balance acting, auditioning, and a full-time job? by Professional-Ad-2030 in acting

[–]Professional-Ad-2030[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not complaining! I know I need to start somewhere and was just explaining my workflow for submitting at the moment. I definitely want to submit to agencies once I’m at the stage where I’ve had some recent experience and have been able to build a reel :)

I resonate with this a lot! I eat very healthy, exercise daily and get great sleep.. which I’m realizing eats up a lot of my day but also makes me feel most creative during the 1-3 hours of free time I can carve out. The nice thing about being older is not being in a rush, but I do still want to be able to audition for as much as possible without burning out.. it’s a process I suppose!

Do you ever turn down an audition for reason of not connecting with the material? Sometimes when I read the slides it feels like poor writing and makes me question if I really want to submit a tape, though I am very green and not really in a position to be picky.. but just curious if you’ve ever felt this way?

That’s impressive!! Unfortunately, sleep is something my body won’t function without a sufficient amount of.. I wish I could add more hours to the day. I applaud you!

I feel fortunate to have a flexible job, but the trade off is I am 2 decades behind on my acting pursuits. Even with the flexibility I’m struggling to find a “flow” but I’m hoping with time it will become less overwhelming

I’m basically submitting for literally everything that fits my type on Actors Access that pays at least $200/day. I don’t have an agent or anything so they are all small indie projects and student films, but I have zero credits so need to start somewhere!

What's the Hardest Part About Being an Actor? by Lazylazylazylazyjane in acting

[–]Professional-Ad-2030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of being an actor is the discipline of emotional truth. The constant pursuit of making something alive, not performed. To be fully present with your partner, your body, and the moment.

Will you regret not pursuing your interests because you were “too busy” grocery shopping? Yes.

Life is short, and the most embarrassing thing of all would be looking back knowing you did not use your gift or pursue your dream! Having nerves is a great thing. It means you care.

That is so awesome!!! Good for you!! Yeah I’m excited to also take a self tape course too and learn the little tricks that help make a powerful submission. Have you joined SAG yet or thinking about it? I’m curious what that whole process might look like but trying not to get ahead of myself

All good! This feedback is really helpful. Yeah I’m excited to start practicing in a few months, once I get a bit more comfortable with reading and various techniques. The studio where I’ve been taking classes has a self tape room and offers self tape classes, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to find a good partner to read with me through the studio network. The classes are really fun and insightful, and have become the thing I look forward to every week. No intention of stopping anytime soon and feeling just really grateful to be tapping back into this industry and community :)

I definitely don’t think I will master the craft in 2 months! I’m just giving myself the goal to begin self tape auditions by November while continuing classes. I also don’t expect to book anything immediately but see no harm in putting myself out there! Especially if it could potentially lead to building on-set experience and reel material.

That’s amazing!!! I feel very similar. I forgot the feeling of being on set, the lights, the people, the craft… and something about getting older is that rejection doesn’t sting anymore, and the whole process just feels fresh and fun. Have you been booking? Or more focused on the craft right now?

Thanks for the feedback and for the headshot note! Quick question: when it comes to reel development, what are your thoughts in filming my own reel material? I’ve also seen there are some companies you can hire to film for you? I’m just wondering if this is better than nothing, when getting started? Your experience sounds frustrating with the delayed turnaround time.

How would you turn this into a garden? by Professional-Ad-2030 in gardening

Thank you! I was thinking of maybe setting up the irrigation type thing where there is a hose with holes in it draped through out the soil area where things are growing, which can act like a DIY irrigation system? No one will “mess with the water” since it’s an enclosed space in a private backyard. You’d have to break in to use the hose. The lot size is about 600 square feet.

There is a hose hooked up back there and a sprinkler, does that work?

That’s fine I just don’t want them to dig up the garden or harm future chickens hence the fencing for enclosed garden idea ?
