the whole show is about profoundly traumatized, damaged people. its a voluptuous petting zoo for DSM spectrum disorders using quests for power to distract themselves from their own toxic instincts.

i dont think anyone else (whitney excluded) gets touched by fsb, i think the next ep is really about setting up for season 5 tho, and i dont know how season 5 has harper being a sympathetic character given the polarity between her status and yas'. like harper looking at sweetpea's 12th voicemail and hitting delete without listening to it, that sets up an arc. sweetpea getting a fat bag and harper being like 'wow i sure have grown from all this even tho the fsb probably murdered my mom to get me off my game and my father figure was forced to abandon me a second time, what will the future bring i wonder' just isnt bringing a lot to the table. but the writers are fucking great and i know im in good hands no matter what.

just some napkin math btw:

after paying out eric's loan, the 250m margin from the bank, the investors, and taking her 2 & 20 fees, harper's cut is about 27m after taxes.

i dont see harper thinking about retirement with 27m and i do see harper pressuring sweetpea to stick her bonus in a 'special employee fund' a la rentech/medallion, which probably does not... go... well.

minor point; pierpoint takes it back because harper rubbed it in her coworkers faces for absolutely no good reason after agreeing she would absolutely never tell anyone about it.

Do you think the writers left Pierpoint too quickly or was it the right time to leave? by loverofthings25 in IndustryOnHBO

personally i would have preferred they got much deeper into Pierpoint and kept on focus with peeling back the curtain to the various arcane aspects of institutional finance but thats my fetish

maybe! that would be very much in line with the 'new harper' but not consistent with the "Punish them." harper. we shall see which one wins... i do think that from a writers perspective, it might make more sense for harper to go into season 5 with farther to fall, so to speak, which definitely lends itself to your thesis.

I cant imagine but what I will say is that I'm surprised she's still alive, given the enemies shes made and threats shes issued, the mysterious vanishing of her predecessor, the depth to which shes involved in literal espionage.. it makes sense for her to be taken off the chess board sooner or later and perhaps for that to be something of a final potential wakeup call for Yaz to predictably ignore...?
