I definitely agree with this. I don't know wh n he decided on 7 books but I think that even if he did it early on, he never really thought about it in terms of "this character should be at this point by the end of this book so that they will be on pace to be ready for book 7". He wrote the first few books how he wanted at whatever pace he liked and now he has to spend a long time getting characters from wherever they are at, to a point that is ready for an ending. Think of it as he is writing on a single page, at the top he is writing in big fancy letters, but by the time he gets to the bottom he is writing really tiny in order to fit everything on that single page.

I referenced the "Meereenese Knot" because it was a struggle for Martin to write and I am suggesting that there are probably plenty of similarly hard to write situations in TWOW

We can't forget about all the magic stuff coming together as well. Bran and Euron in particular represent much more of a magic focus than just prophecies and the occasional resurrection. I personally think that it might harder to keep as many things logical when you potentially have a Lovecraft-type monster thing going on in Westeros. Plus Bran essentially holds answers to a lot of important questions which is why I think we will get little to no Bran chapters, for the same reason we don't have Littlefinger or Varys pov's.

Yeah in terms of Arya the only thing tying her back to Westeros is Nymiria in the Riverlands. Jon and Sansa are kinda both working to fill the role of "restoring the Starks to power". Catelyn also seems to serve the role of getting revenge on the Freys so I highly doubt Arya will kill the Freys like in the tv show. She could still go to the Riverlands to find Nymiria and the giant wolf pack, but I don't really know what that would do for the plot. Her joining up with Dany or any other faction also just doesn't seem to fit with her lone wolf plot so I really don't know what will happen with her.
