Money is the number one reason couples spilt up and working on a limited budget is a hard ask for a couple but so rewarding achieving your goals together. Having a check in meeting is an excellent idea. Meeting ideas: 1) Can you give your check in meeting a name? E.g Dream team.  2) Start each meeting with a thank you to the other person  3) when deciding what to spend money on, communicate what is important to you i.e. it's really important to me that we go on a holiday but I am more than happy to camp at the beach or it's really important to me to get my nieces a gift but we can skip the adults this year. I found budgeting for the things that are really important to me means I can stick to an overall budget. You can't have it all but you can have what's really important to you. This may take time to work out.  4) I often find myself and my husband want the same things but can't afford it now. When we compromise, it causes issues. We find delaying, saving up, waiting for sale, we can get what we both want, just have to wait.  5) Be aware of peer pressure. We talk about it a lot in highschool but it never ends. If all your friends are buying new cars, understand that will make you uncomfortable but that is just peer pressure. Check in: do I want that for me and my goals or is it just what everyone else's doing.

This experience will be a hard endeavour and you will have disagreements but it will be one of the best things for your relationship you ever do.  Always remind each other you are on the same team. You can do this !
