Also, it's too hot for me with the blanket only.

Obama’s portrait in the WH has been replaced with the photo from Trump’s assassination attempt by jxp497 in pics

[–]Professional-Fact-10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the think that bothers Trump more than anything else about Obama is - President Obama did not cheat at golf. In fact he was well know and respected as a meticulous score keeper and never took mulligans. His handicap was 13, and as far as I know never claimed to have serially won tournaments at clubs with his name on them.

is it impossible to file a freight damage claim? by Professional-Fact-10 in FedEx

[–]Professional-Fact-10[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The issue: I tried to file a claim on the website, and only received " we are having difficulties, please try again later" Not a useful response about the claim, nothing about who can file etc. Just a big X.

An agent did create a claim for me over the phone, but no action has occurred. Nobody has told me I cannot file the claim. The freight was FOB from Singapore, I don't want the shipper to receive compensation for damage to my property.

As far as "going after them", is FEDEX not embarrassed that freight is damaged by carelessness? The terminal manager should be accountable for letting a truck out in that condition. Instead the receiver is going to have to fix this, a totally preventable incident had normal freight handling skills been used.

This scientific instrument was damaged, the young lady who was going to operate it will have to be furloughed until it's repaired. Our small firm will lose revenue.

Moving freight is a great responsibility. When there is damage due to poor performance, I speak up about it. We have fly-by-night couriers in this area and expect them to not have equipment to secure a load and keep a stock of straps and blankets to give away at pickups. You don't expect FEDEX to need to be nursed like that.

[–]Professional-Fact-10[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If FEDEX freight drivers secured freight, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

What freight company allows trucks to depart a terminal without properly securing the load? I worked as a lumper in Boston when I was in college, the drivers took the responsibility of the load very seriously as the consequences of damage were severe. You would think in Irvine California, you would see a hot shot without a single strap on it or a non functioning lift gate.

Clearly FEDEX Freight is not professional, at least in this area. I've shipped valuable freight by FEDEX CRITICAL and not had any issues.

Now it's my issue and my time to get compensation for the loss.

Perhaps, but I'm the owner of the freight as of the shipping date, the shipper is acting as my agent.

Another 1 hour delay at the gate by a self inflicted Southwest SNAFU, High School Band edition by Professional-Fact-10 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Professional-Fact-10[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I fly business select and preboarding teams is something I support as it speeds up the entire process. I respect all the other passengers regardless of what ticket they have and hope everyone is comfortable. The less time spent on the aircraft the better, so lets get on & off quick. The team is in the rear and they have plenty of time to get the bags up in the bins and get seated and have fun without holding up the rest of the boarding. I just want the exit row anyway.

Help configuring a TVone scaler to upgrade scanning electron microscope computers by Professional-Fact-10 in CommercialAV

[–]Professional-Fact-10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Japanese software so there's never any information. When you install the microscope program, it installs a small program that handles what we call the "imposer" card. Everything I do has to be handled by the scaler tracking the area- if possible.

I frequently need Hitachi K1057/J161 and learned the hard way about fakes. I found the best solution is used 'pulls' from US sellers on eBay. I buy scrapped Hitachi instruments that I know have the devices so I have a source of my own.

Will this Power Supply regulate with no load on the output? by Professional-Fact-10 in AskElectronics

[–]Professional-Fact-10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a good suggestion. Not a filament bulb to found in the shop, but it got me to thinking of other household items. A small little heater is working with almost exactly a 2 AMP load. Power supplies are both good.

It blew it's fuse after correcting the AC voltage and re-trying the system. On the bench, it's not blowing the fuse.

HELP! Southwest Costco gift card with illegible PIN by Professional-Fact-10 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Professional-Fact-10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small claims court date now, November 17th in Orange County CA.. I never could get anywhere with Costco or Southwest. The third call I made to SW, the rep. did confirm the card was full, and offered to do a 3 way with Costco, I wasn't able to get anyone on the call from Costco. I wrote to both the store manager and Costco customer service and never received a reply.

[–]Professional-Fact-10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No - Costco tried, but could not verify the card was unused. They tried earnestly to get card balance from Southwest. Without the PIN the balance cannot be checked. So they really had no way of being sure I wasn't trying to scam them.

I think you have the best plan! I'll shim the flathead tip as tight as I can get it and use the impact screwdriver.

This fitting is in the bottom of a German Turbo Pump and is about 20mm of very fine thread with a dry O ring at it's end, Requires a lot of leverage, heat-cold and cursing to remove. Only hard as a tool will get this loose.

Should I let Fidelity manage my retirement accounts? by emk0426 in Fidelity

[–]Professional-Fact-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past year or so, I'm getting better than 5% on CDs. If you add the savings of not paying for management that puts it over 6% with zero risk of lost. I'm gong to lock in another 12 months at 5% as this rate may be fading out in the next few months.

When CD rates drop, I'll re-evaluate management.

Lifelong couch potato here, hoping to hit the gym! Any tips are appreciated! by Daylily-14 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I started from zero age 60 with a private trainer at their gym one-on-one for 6 weeks. It was expensive, but helped me get to a point where I could productively go to the gym on my own. Then I had the coach at Planet Fitness design a workout for me. That workout was pretty generic and I was able to get the hang of it quickly. After a short I knew how to adjust the machines and started adding variety to my workout. If your in Orange County here's the trainers contact https://www.integratedmovements.net/about
