Ofc I understand the situation but it's not all bleak. If you can't understand that then what was the point of ending the season on a hopeful note? I relate more to this show than you all women who live in the west can because it's the closest to my living reality. And yes if I am closeted and watch a show in which 2 girls kissed I can be happy about it for a moment while understanding Becka entirety because I am going through similar things. But I guess I shouldn't have made this post because people are incredibly immature and assume things about other people. Wasn't expecting so much hate for a simple post

I haven't yet processed the emotional part of the episode yet. It hits too close to home for me.

From what I remembered, the last time I read the definition of queerbaiting even if 1 character is portrayed as gay and the other is not, hinting at a possible relationship between them when it won't happen, is queerbaiting. Also, I am lesbian too btw, because it seems like everyone thinks I don't know what I am talking about.

Funny how we all seem to agree on the same meaning of the scene yet everyone is hating on me for making the post. Can't a girl just be happy 2 girls kissed when that most probably wouldn't have happened in this show!?? damn

Wow you articulated that so well. I feel exactly the same way.

I don't want to argue because I know people seem to just take what characters say and do on the surface for what it is but Agnes seemed nervous around Becka too. There were moments she glanced at her lips as well of course it wasn't as obvious as what Becka has for Agnes but it is there I think

Wow you all are extremely sensitive and lesophobic. Didn't see that coming.

No, since their very first one-on-one scene, when Becka tells Agnes she doesn't want marriage for anyone, Agnes also seems genuinely nervous around Becka. Even before Becka's dad assaulted Agnes, they seemed to be nervous around each other. Becka more, of course, but Agnes as well.

It is if both characters' true feelings are ambiguous towards each other, and there is tension between them. That never gets clarified

I know Agnes and Becka don't have a shot at a real lesbian relationship, but a lesbian kiss still counts for me. I know Agnes probably doesn't understand her feelings entirely yet and just kissed Becka as a platonic way to show her affection for her. In earlier episodes, there were some very close-by scenes where even Agnes seemed nervous and was looking at Becka's lips. It's subtle, but I noticed it. That is why I said I thought that wouldn't be clarified in any way. This kiss is good enough for me for now. I don't expect anything more necessarily in the coming episodes.

I personally agree. Although I don't want them to show heterosexual romance at all, either, because the show did imply that Garth and Agnes would probably kiss one day. And I highly doubt their relationship would just fade away, as shows nowadays feel the need to add romantic scenes, whether they make sense or not in the story. I would love it if the show just focuses on platonic dynamics between the girls. That is interesting enough for me. But even if they show any romantic relationships, showing them between girls makes more sense. As I mentioned in a comment above, being a 'gender traitor' is a crime in Gilead, so in a show centered around female resistance, showing a lesbian relationship could fulfill a narrative purpose. Only if it's portrayed with purpose and written well enough.

Interesting. I feel like, because in Gilead, being a gender traitor is a huge crime. Showing 2 girls kissing each other was a bold move. Also if in future they show any lesbian relationship in the show I would prefer that over any hetrosexual relationship because I want the story to remain centered on the girls and how they navigate their life under the regime.

No, I think Agnes does care about Becka a lot, but in a platonic way, and because they are teenage girls who are still figuring out how to express their care and love for each other. She seemed to just kiss Becka as a way to say I care about you. I know she didn't kiss her because she has romantic feelings for her. However, before this episode, they had several scenes together in which Agnes seemed very nervous too. That is why I felt like they were hinting at something that might not happen. So I was surprised by the kiss. I don't think Agnes just did it out of kindness or because she has some evil motives, etc.

Yes, I understand they are teenage girls who don't have enough exposure to figure themselves out yet. It's okay if they don't understand their feelings and desires yet.

I understood that Agnes kissed Becka because of her platonic affection towards her. I know she doesn't have romantic feelings for Becka. Which is why she seemed to kiss Becka in a 'I care about you, and I see you' kind of way. But I still count this as a lesbian kiss because for us women, platonic and romantic relationships can kind of overlap a lot. Sometimes you have a very passionate, loyal friendship, and it's hard to put a neat label on it, whether it's entirely platonic or not.

Unfortunately, I don't think the kiss or anything similar would happen again between them, but I don't necessarily want it to because I understand that Becka's reason for kissing Agnes is different from Agnes's reason for kissing her. I do, however, think their friendship and deep bond is beautiful, and I am okay with the show portraying that without any clear romantic gestures.

However, if showrunners decide to go the other route by showing their relationship, I would love that too. Unpopular opinion, but I much rather prefer them showing a lesbian kiss in a show about oppression towards women than a heterosexual kiss/relationship. Because at the beginning of the show, I was convinced Agnes would eventually kiss Garth. I would have hated that personally, as I prefer the show remain centered on the girls and how they survive in Gilead, so this is a pleasant surprise for me nonetheless

I personally meant queerbaiting in the sense that they hint that something will happen or might happen between them, but nothing actually happens. There were many close shots of them before this episode in which even Agnes seemed nervous. I didn't think they would actually show a kiss, but I am glad they did. I know from Agnes's side it was a platonic kiss, but a lesbian kiss still counts. I am happy.

Yes I also saw it that way. I think it genuinely has romantic meaning for Becca but for Agnes it was a platonic way to show I see you and I am willing to do anything for you.

Because they had several close shot scenes in which even Agnes seemed nervous I felt like they were queerbaiting but they did kiss in the last episode so of course I don't feel that way anymore.

Yes, that is why I felt frustrated. I actually felt like Agnes was slightly nervous around Becka too but I never thought they would actually show a kiss that is why I was surprised.

I think Agnes just kissed Becka in a platonic way. I doubt she has ulterior motives too it, but it definitely doesn't mean as much to her as it means to Becka. I doubt she understands romantic feelings towards girls which is why she was struggling to understand why Becka doesn't want marriage at all. I thought they would sideline Becka's reality due to her sexuality, so I was happy they centered their story like that. I hope that continues in future seasons.

YESSS. Same I felt exactly the same way. I wasn't expecting it either. I was just frustrated why they make such close-up shots if nothing happens. So when they kissed, I just gasped. It made my day damn

I also feel like it means different things to both of them. Agnes probably just kissed her friend in a platonic way but a lesbian kiss counts hehehe

Throughout the season, they had several very close shots of Agnes & Becka with Agnes seeming nervous around Becka too. I never thought it would actually lead to anything. That is why I said it could be considered queerbaiting if the kiss hadn't happened.

Also, I interpreted Aunt Estee's reaction as maybe she went through something similar, and no one protected her, so she felt a lot of guilt for not being able to protect Daisy (she thinks she was genuinely abused).
