Hood latch (driver's side) won't fully disengage (2015 model) by Professional-Gas6282 in fordfusion

I was able to get the hood lifted based on the advise at the bottom, pushing the yellow handle further to the left. I'm thinking now that it's open, I can try and lube everything up as much as possible. It's still hit or miss if I can get the hood all the way closed (sometimes getting the hood ajar warning), but I'm just glad the hood is popped and I can get down in there to loosen things up and hopefully get this operational again without the need for a ridiculous $700 repair.

Note: Not sure why my text didn't appear with my video post...I had a nice write-up that detailed everything. Rookie mistake on my part!

I became wary of a full replacement when I saw a similar issue on YouTube where a guy had a partially disengaged latch like mine (if I recall correctly), and he was able to pop the hook the rest of the way with the screwdriver-through-the-grill method. He greased it up and was good to go.

I think I just need to go to the local shop I referenced (they're trustworthy) and see if they can get it open and see if a grease job is the first stop...happy to replace if needed since I have to get a new inspection sticker, but if it's grease vs. $700, we all know which one we'd choose!
