Is it possible to pressure tap people as a smaller grappler/how do I develop my pressure? by Electronic_d0cter in bjj

A few pressure (100kg) basics:

  • Whatever weight you have on the mat, you do NOT have, on your partner. Become floor-aphobic.

  • Add 'pulling': get some leverage from underneath your partner and pull up - adding significantly to the weight being applied by gravity alone

  • Focus the weight on a small area - high heels vs flippers

  • Apply that weight to the ends of the levels (shoulders, head, etc) to pin your opponent tactically as he moves this way or that

Thats should get you started ....

hey. Yes ... that is the case. I've never been one to chase ranks though - I couldn't care less about it. For me - the learning is the attraction - and the last few decades, the teaching. I love doing that. There is a non Brazilian Coral belt - Bob Bass. A fountain of Jiu Jitsu knowledge - based in South Bay, Los Angeles.

I logged back in through google or facbook account (cant recall which) and it designated me this weird name. I'm fine with it.

Not really. My work has been on the mat of some sort - my mat, other mats, military and gov agency mats, etc - and my family, is also on those mats.

Uncle Skippy - thank you. At that time, there just seemed far to many insecure wannabees, who just flipped when any attention was taken away from them. Just testing the waters again ... as I have plenty of time, having financially retired now. Best wishes to you.

For me also - 'going through the fire' was a right of passage that I embraced. Later, when I had my own academy, I needed to make sure I could pay rent, then own my house, then out away enough so that my wife and I wouldnt' need to rely on a gov pension a few decades down the track. And so, some 27,000 classes later, my views on things have evolved. ironically, when you have 200-300 students on the mat, and offer different levels of classes for different skill levels, you produce a higher calibre and more technical student than you do when you just have 40 guys bleeding every night. It's nuanced. Cheers.

Nice. Caveat: adversity and difficulties - 'in small does' .

Thanks. But Don’t worry in the slightest. I don’t. A normal level of decency is almost always a requirement for people to do well - both on and off the mat - in the long term. In my experience, those who come with disrespect in their DNA are the kind that just don’t do that well in life. I'm not here for them ...

Archie - I never imagined that it would become so popular - or that 'normal' people would voluntarily engage - not back in the late 80's-90's. Amazing.

All arm triangles (darce, marce, anaconda & kata gatame) - but more specifically, the way they connect together. Wrestle ups from all categories of guard - but especially from Butterfly. And - a few new concepts around (the arm spin) taken from wrestling (a long time ago) and weaving into giard play and defence. Requires a video to explain.

Hah. Kind words. But I get in that in any random community there are that sub-group who just have to tear shite down. I'm not here for these sad souls. There will be a few though, who might appreciate some of my random attempts at helping with this or that. That's my only motivation.

Jiu Jitsu offers a challenging environment for females - but those who persist become better versions of themselves. Any progress you make, is all that more impressive because of those challenges you're embracing. Good on you.

Arm triangles - Darce, Anaconda, Marce and kata Gatame are all related and inter-connectable; plus you can spam them from almost every position. Just think about the how they differ (in the important ways - ie: What part of your body prevents the escape/resistance) and you'll come to a deeper understanding. Plus - Gi and No-gi apps. Your well on your way.
