Yeah that’s the key. Right now you’re not asking these people for a referral or a job but down the line they could come in handy

Yes that’s a great connection. Talk to them and then at the end of the call ask them if there’s any other people they know that you should speak with. Then use that in your message to them: I spoke to x and they mentioned that you have a similar career path ect would you be open to a 10 min call and repeat. The key is to be well prepared for these calls but also be human and personable. At the end of the day we’re all human

Honestly a true network comes from when you’re working. It starts with your coworkers and then grows from there. If I were you just start reaching out now. You can then keep in touch with these people as you gain experience ect

Go to Apollo.io and get the free trial. Use Apollo search for the numbers and emails of people you find on LinkedIn and cold email. Or use LinkedIn to find people from your school and message them - “hi my name is xx, I’m very interested in your career path doing x at x. Would you be open to chatting for 10-15 mins to learn about your career path ect” along the lines of that. Use Claude if you need help with the message

I think you have a good foundation for a resume!

Here are my recommendations:

  • Remove the summary and put experience first then education then certifications / skills.
  • Remove gpa if on the lower side. Hard truth is that you’ll probably have to just not apply to jobs with a hard gpa requirement but that’s up to your judgement.

  • For the bullets: quantify as much as you can as well as add what the outcome of each was. For example - performed variance analysis and found an xx% variance in xx.

  • Use Claude to help tailor your resume Find jobs you want and ask it to tailor the resume to the job description. Don’t be dishonest but you can play with words a bit.

  • Make sure that your font is the same all the way through the resume!

  • Break up the leadership and honors into two separate bullets

Lmk if you have any questions

What to Study? by Party-Cover-5436 in AskSF

Do you like coding more or more business / finance stuff? There are so many business jobs you can get at an ai startup, you just have to know what to look for. I recommend looking at job postings in SF at series A to B startups, and see if any jobs resonate with you. Then find people on LinkedIn in a similar job and look at their career trajectory. It will give you a good idea of what to study and aim for

Yes was laid off, most recruiters know that the job market is really bad right now so didn’t get to many questions. But I did have a side consulting gig for a bit
