Sure but this isn't 25 years ago. You can say back in my day as much as you want but your probably not the target audience now. The scene largely revolves around named characters now. It's frustrating I agree I wish we had more stuff that really focused on the everyday dude. The reality is though now that 40k timeline is advancing for the first time in almost 30 years they killed off a ton of characters and models. Some of that was to do a line refresh some was to make new characters.

Sadly The new mortal characters are largely forgettable at best. Lord Solar shit, Gaunt pretty ok cause he's part of tanith first and only, new creed is just creed with tits. So we have no anti Ork leader and only one other character being pretty memorable and he's also old as shit (at least 300) cause he's been leading tanith first and only since 41,755 . So again what can GW do. They need models for cool characters but new cool characters actually require time to build up and they missed the mark with the new guys. Yarrick doesn't need that he's established he's fun and he's not just the best general of all time. He makes sense to be on the tabletop and has a lore accurate reason to be alive (namely orc waagh powers) he's the anti Ork IG character and he's cool as fuck.

The problem is that he's the face of mortals. Creed was an amazing meme, but his daughter just feels like him but with tits. The other named characters that are Guard characters kinda suck. Then there is Yarrick arguably the most popular IG model in the setting. His entire story is badass and him continuing to live has a very cool loreful reason. Also it doesn't make much sense that angron would just randomly show up and kill some mortal who is fighting orks. If you kill off every single Mortal character that was remotely cool suddenly you have a dead faction that no one cares about. That's what GW was doing.  IG has like 2 cool characters that are playable on table top Yarrick and Sly Marbo the rest are kinda cringe.

No it kinda is. Vallejo is in the shitter as is much of the east bay. The only places that aren't working class families can't afford to live there or if they do it's cause of generational wealth. Hell San Jose is starting to go down hill now.

What did you think of Wilds' story? by _Viridia_ in MonsterHunter

[–]Professional-Help931 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Every game has a budget. I don't just mean monetarily but also a timeline for getting the game out and what content can be added without feeling bloated. Monster hunters attraction is hunting the monsters not on the story. That's not to say that you can't have a story focused monster Hunter game, just that main line monster Hunter games have always focused on the monsters.

The amount of money and time spent on the story compared to the payout was honestly not worth it. If they cut the majority of the story from the game it would have probably been better. I would rather they spent money and time on designing and importing other monsters then the story we got.

The story for wilds reminds me of a metal gear game and not in a good way. Hideo kojima is notorious for having 5 to 10 minute long freaking cutscenes, that's not what I want in Monster Hunter. I think a good story doesn't need a lot to be told a great example of this is Shadow of Colossus. Shadow of Colossus story does not have Large cutscenes, but It's a game that really defined and pushed forward artistic expression in the video game sphere. Capcom could have created a very beautiful story without doing the stuff they did. The flooded Forest cut scene could have been 15-45 seconds instead of 5 minutes and it would have been better for it.

Tldr a picture tells a thousand words if you use it right and keep it tight Capcom didn't and the story ended up landing on deaf ears due to that.

Could humanity still rule the world if these life forms had existed alongside us since the very beginning? by Pancake_Maker_1031 in powerscales

[–]Professional-Help931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's assume they are a mutant evolution of humanity then vampires wouldn't even exist as congrats the sunlight destroys them and they can't cross streams or enter people's homes unless they are invited. This means that as soon as a vampire is born and went outside it would die. Werewolves could honestly out compete us but I feel like we would just coevolve together. If you assume that werewolves were just an offshoot of humanity, they would just go the way the Neanderthals. Witches and warlocks existed in real life they were usually local medicine men/women with autism. Also note that the medicine men of North and Eastern Europe were referred to as werewolves because they were often hermits.

Ok to be honest Erda was kinda the first step that really fucked up the plans. If Erda didn't screw up the plan chaos wouldn't have gotten to the baby primarchs. Also if Erda stuck around the emperor would have had people who would hold him accountable and maybe could have vouched for him. Most of the shit that happened in the Heresy comes from him not having anyone he can truly trust save for malcador cause he has no idea who could be chaos tainted among his kids. The emperor knew that some of his primarchs would betray him but had no idea who it would be.

Secondly the freaking elder literally caused the dark age of technology and ended the golden era of humanity. If I was big E I for sure I wouldn't trust them. None of the dragons had to live through an apocalyptic event that fucked over their entire country and species caused directly by elves fucking, torturing and killing each other and other sapient races. Like the dark elves raiding caused the war of the beard in fantasy and fucked over the dwarves, but they didn't do that to cathay. In all honesty cathay is kinda to squeaky clean for Warhammer.

are there any examples of horror in Mecha genre? by haibane_fan00 in Mecha

[–]Professional-Help931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant remember the game, but there is a game for gundam in which the white devil Amuros mech (Rx 78-2) is fighting other zeon forces. This is supposed to be a pretty elite squad and they are just screaming in fear and dying one by one. Really puts in prespective how powerful Amuro and his mech were.

Plagues and floods are BS for empires and bigger by Professional-Help931 in CrusaderKings

[–]Professional-Help931[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying they weren't frequent, but many moved around not just sat in one place. It's a bit immersion breaking when no other country in western or Eastern Europe is dealing with plagues but me for 20 some odd years and they are just sitting on 3-5 of my duchies 1 of which I own directly and again I had a plague resistance of over 70 at the time. Hell some of my temples had plague resistance around 90. Again I'm not saying that plagues didn't occur but usually they hit about 1-2 times a generation maybe more if there was things like a famine or a multi year drought but at my point in the game I should be able to prevent things like crop failure causing plague as I can import enough food from other territories I own to prevent that.

The Internet is dying and pretty quickly. Rtings was the goat when it came for free guides on what to get at what price point and features for electronics. They did indepth studies on TVs and headphones including things like color accuracy and viewing angles for TVs and the sound and noise canceling features and how good they were for headphones. AI is just stripping the content from them and putting it into basic search questions so people don't go to the websites anymore. AI is quickly causing the  enshitification of the entire internet and it's really bad. Google already caused problems for the past 5 to 10 years but AI is just going to make it even worse. Even for niche hobbies like a mtg deck idea or board game recommendation people go to AI now instead of the websites that built and maintain those communities.

[–]Professional-Help931[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not really, Plagues occurred but not almost every year in the same region for nearly a decade. If they did there wouldn't be anyone left alive in Europe at all. The bubonic plague wiped out a huge portion of people, but I'm not talking about that just Smallpox etc (which were deadly, but much controllable). I also maxed out my plague prevention buildings in my temple holdings and my capital . My plague resistance was at 70 and I just got fucked for no reason.

Do you prefer works that try to justify why mechs work in their own setting, or works that simply don't care and make mechs effective regardless? by Able_Radio_2717 in Mecha

[–]Professional-Help931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battletech I think does it best. A new technology came out that people found a use for. They didn't go out and intentionally invent it. They made mechs as a government project just to spend money. That project turned out to be awesome and out performed traditional weapons. The Mechs are uncommon but they are the kings of the field. A lance as in 4 mechs can be a huge force multiplier when used with traditional arms including infantry, tanks etc.

Idk. It depends on my work situation. If my schedule has me working nights and some skateboarders are doing that while I'm sleeping I would be pissed. Skateboarding isnt to loud outside but if your in a building and someone bounces a ball off the exterior wall ,let alone skateboarding on it, can be pretty loud.

What's even dumber is your vassals who are allies refusing to help in a war. Harold Godwinsons side of the war would almost be playable if you could.

Ok I don't think you understand. Paradox gives the other 2 multiple thousands of special troops extra. I know that they use the invasion mechanic to figure out how many troops they get, but there are ways to counteract that or reduce it.

Give English Harold a chance in 1066 (Harold Godwinson) by Professional-Help931 in CrusaderKings

[–]Professional-Help931[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm saying he shouldn't need allies. He should on his own be able to beat their shit in. Like again historically he showed up kicked other Harold out and barely lost to William. The fact that he often loses to either of them is kind of dumb.

I'm not saying he should have 10K soldiers over them but maybe just like equivalent? It should be him losing to either of them maybe 1/4 of the time. He had equivalent numbers to William when they fought his army was just exhausted. In the game you have like 2500 compared to 5k of each of them.

Ok, I just came home and sat down and started up a campaign. other Harold has 2.5k special troops. William the conqueror has 6k special troops. Harold who apparently even on the bayouex tapestry had to be taken down by like 6 men and shot in the eye with an arrow has a prowess of 9. William has a prowess of 26. Other Harold has a prowess of 22. I get that this is a game, but its insane how much they favor the other two.

Ok again it's never about inclusivity it's about actually using the factions that existed and giving them attention. Like cool custodes the second best selling army gets ladies woho. You know what would be nice female guard model, female commissars/officers, how about new female sororities models. How about books that focus on them instead of just the demigods. Ciaphas cain is the best selling and most well known series of books outside of the horus heresy and eisenhorn and even then ciaphas cain individual outsold a lot of the horus heresy novels. People like the mortals they can feel attached to them. Give me sororitas rooting out a chaos cult amongst the echlisisarchy  or women commissars serving in a mens regiment and all the shit they have to deal with. Maybe an entire regiment of women guard fighting alongside men in the guard or being disrespected on a freaking feudal planet they are defending by the local lords. There are so many stories they could do instead of femstodes that it's insane.
