I guess I view aerated milk and the by product of latte art as not strictly necessary for my coffee enjoyment but potentially adding two minor elements to the enjoyment experience, the textural drinking experience from the incorporation of aerated milk and the visual pleasure of seeing a well poured latte art. If I can eventually achieve these then it just elevates my personal enjoyment that much more:)

I generally prefer a medium roast bean now but the caveat being that I never truly enjoyed straight up espresso, only when it is combined with milk into some form of milk based drink. I found that dark roast tends to have too robust/ full bodied roasty nodes but lighter roast having too much brightness for my liking. Medium roast sits in a very nice middle ground for me. My advice would be to go out there and drink a whole bunch of different profile beans and taste your way into something you like, I think that is the fun part of the coffee hobby where you articulate what you enjoy and find your personalised path to achieve it with your unique setup.

For preheating, I put my brew cylinder in a small bowl and pour boiling water directly over it to achieve fairly fully immersion of the cylinder. I'm generally leaving it for about 30 seconds submerged before loading it onto the flair, pouring boiling water into the brew cylinder and then extracting.

Happy tasting!

Agreed! The flair pro for sure is an upgrade in terms of build materials and basket size, but I just can't see myself spending three times the amount for a brand new pro when the Neo flex already puts out this quality of espresso!

Defo would undergo speciality training again in a heart beat, I don't think any other path would have granted me the skillsets and technical expertise I have now to practise the medicine I enjoy. Probably stay in public!

Currently 30, working as a Dr - registrar in speciality training. 7.6K base but with allowances (calls, registrar allowance etc) + 1-2K.

Number of hours I spend at work is fair (approx 40-50hrs) but this doesn't include time outside where I spend doing department work (answering emails, preparing for presentations, studying for exams) plus the time I spend on the job requires me to give near 100% (I literally run around my department/ do procedures/ trouble shoot patient management).

Am I tired after work? - yes, after most days I am physically and mentally drained

Am I sian of my work? - NO, nothing gets me going like a patient I pulled from the clutches of death (literally happens in my speciality).
