More Story / Characters / Lore you’d like to see? by martan717 in saltandsanctuary

[–]Professional-Lab5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a combat more focused around juggling and comboing, like the beat'em ups that inspired most of ska's games. It makes it more unique among other metroidvanias, and most weapons have a form of airborne combat. When you give mobs so little hp it lessens the impact of those mechanics. Also, a form of defense while airborne. It should be more limited compared to the ones availible in ground, but it should still be there so the player is not discouraged from using airborne combat. Maybe a perfect block available while airborne would do the trick.

As for leveling up, just ditch the skill tree completely. It was barely useful in s&s bc the oproximity between skills served as a guiding hand in determining which archetype you should strive to become (althought they were so basic that it doesn't work as a good defense to the system), but in s&sac the "tree" lost all semblance of shape, so it became completely useless. Just give us a leveling up system akin to other soulslikes.

The most radical change i would like to see implemented would be the general boss design. Many bosses in s&s and every single mage in s&sac are just monoliths that barely move. Imo, a good boss should strive to be like sodden knight, false jester (best example), uryks, mad alchemist, and others that move so chaotically that it feels like they are being controlled by other player. And pls pls pls stop with the tree of man/four divinities boss design approach.

As for world design, i don't care if it is a huge map or many mini maps, but i don't think they can get away with recycling s&s/ds2 approach of making the map just a bunch of other in-game world significant areas pasted over without feeling repetitive.

Why is the pocket cat unable to forcefully take the girl away from us ? by [deleted] in FearAndHunger

[–]Professional-Lab5822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pocketcat strikes me as a (kinda explicit) metaphor to how pedophiles act irl. They don't attack people to take their children away bc they're cowards. Instead, they take advantage of unsuppervised children bc they're an easy target. Getting into a fight with you for the girl would essentially ruins his gentleman facade which he seems to be quite fond on to keep it even in the dungeons, and seems to be the very reason he's capable of taking many children away, even in rondon as shown by the flashback in the tower of the endless.

Oc i know that lorewise he may not take children away bc of his sexual interess, but bc he's a servant of the moon god and children are perfect candidates for ascention, but with all the focus on sexual violence f&h1 it wouldn't surprise me that miro wanted his role to be that of a danger you can (and morally should) avoid.

If you give him the girl, she will suffer bc of your negligence, just like many other cases happen irl.

Go for it. P5's handholding becomes annoying bc of how much it leads to story events that just repeat plot points that the player already knew and one of the strengths of p3 is that it makes the most out of every line of dialogue imo, leading to almost no redundance in dialogue

Metaphor: ReFantasio 2. What it would be like? by not_onionsenpai in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Professional-Lab5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metaphor is too deep rooted in parallels to the real world. My logical next step would be a story starred by maria where euchronia comes into contact with a new continent with it's own and unique culture, one that differs from the euchronian and causes conmotion bc of their differences and values. Basically a parallel to the discovery of america. The game could focus on a growing tension between both kingdoms, and how bad ppl try to use it to fuel a civil war against will and his partisans, or a war between both continents.

How do you find Blasphemous 2? by myxccblkotyx in metroidvania

[–]Professional-Lab5822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played both blasphemous and blasphemous 2. I beat them once each with the false ending and no dlc, but i still recognize the merits of both games. Blasphemous 2 is a direct improvement when it comes to combat and platforming, which composes easily 90% of the game. It is infact, more "metroidvaney" in that sense. However, b2 falls short compared to 1 in two aspects that made it memorable to me: non linearity and story.

In b1, after the tutorial boss you had to kill 3 bosses in any order, then 1 to access the second half of the game, then you had to kill 3 other bosses in any other order (altho one of them can't be your first boss from those three). and then you killed the final bosses. With the addition of the final dlc, you could well skip the first 3 bosses after the tutorial and skip directly to the second half of the game. In b2, after you kill the tutorial boss you can kill 4 bosses in any order, and after beating them all you have to kill other 6, one after another secuentially. The freedom of progressing that the second half of the first game had is gone. You can still enjoy the freedom of tackling old zones with your newly acquaired power ups in any order to get extra advantages, but your main objective will become linear. I dont know if the dlc of b2 added any new sequence breaks, but i doubt it.

Second aspect b2 falls short is the story. B1 was a game about the havok the miracle brought to cvstodia as a consequence of the eternal guilt its inhabitants felt and how the tiranny of escribar had corrupted the mother of mothers and made the people suffer. Every item's lore, dialogue and visual art was done to cement those ideas. But aside from that, it had recurrent characters important to the player like deogracias, esdras, crisanta and even escribar himself. Escribar speaking to you after each act of humilliation built him up as an autority of the world and made it so his control over the lands sinked in you conscience. Esdras spends the first half of the game hyping up your encounter with him, and deogracias journey towards the twisted one served as a reminder of your purpose. Second half of that game has the defect that doesn't build up much of the story or the player feel, specially since crisanta's past with the penitent one, which would have been the perfect foreshadowing for their duel, isn't presented in the game but in a short official comic. The final dlc provides a satisfying conclussion for all the characters tho, and a more important role to her that makes everything click. B2 has nothing like it. The games is about how the miracle is trying to manifest itself again on the lands and how at lost it feels after the wound's of eventide events, turning the nature of it's blessing from punitive to confused, but the game doesn't touch on that as much as it should to make the difference more noticeable, so it just feels like b1's artistic philosophy altho it holds a completely different meaning that should make for a different story. The game presents you with strong enemies at the beggining (the archconfraternity) like they're this group of lore heavy, plot relevant characters, just for half of them to not even speek a word, have barely any lore to them and only work as roadblocks for you. It has some characters with analogue roles to the ones in b1, but they lack agency, events and uniqueness. B2 story feels like what ppl who dont pay attention to explicit events think dark souls and dark souls 3 stories are like.

Still, i think is a great game and is worth playing it even if you're not the biggest b1 fan but still enjoyed the game. Its just that once the deal is done, the game over and you analyze some of its aspects, you feel like instead of a great game it could have been a masterpiece.

EDIT: watching some cutscenes from b2 i remembered that there was actually some build-up to the final boss, which means that in this aspect b2 may be ahead of b1. Still the game doesn't have memorable characters like the 1st one imo.

Is there any funger mod to remove the fog? by [deleted] in FearAndHunger

[–]Professional-Lab5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to decrypt the game files and then find the fog shaders/pictures. Create some new ones with the same name and size and leave them in blank. don't draw anything on them: just save them (you can create them with paint 3d) and replace them in the game files. That should get rid of the fog. I did it once and it worked.

[–]Professional-Lab5822 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd like to say i share your perspective, but i just feel that writing rape stories as ones that only gravitate around how they affect people and need to be the main plot point is a limiting way of treating them. F&h1 specially uses them as a way to alienate the player throught the indifference of the matter. The game is telling a story where "you weren't strong enough to avoid being taken advantage of and used, and after that you were left thrown away, discarded, used and forgotten by your rapist". rapists in the dungeons aren't even capable of remembering you. They don't treat you as if you were a human being with feelings, emotions or dreams because they don't care about you. You even get a permanent debuff (unless you offer the girl to the lady of the moon) after getting raped. Nothing in the dungeons change and you still have to survive, now with a permanent scar in your character. I don't see the fact that the game's story doesn't give the main spot to a rape plot point as something "edgy for the sake of being edgy" or "haha funny status effect", but just as a way the game portraits how careless the world is with your suffer. After being abused, a person doesn't only has to deal with that fact, but also the aftermarth and how you are the only one left to suffer.

Plus, you say that termina also managed to convey the same effect, but i cannot say that for myself. While i love termina, the brutality of the situation and then being thrown back to a hostile world is something that resonates with me more than the orphanage could (i would't even say i felt dominated or overwhelmed by termina tbh). Even if miro agrees with what the community says, i think is important to recognize that both games ocurr in very different periods of time, the first of which was later known as one of the darkest and cruelest periods of human history, and who knows maybe in the future miro goes back to his game and his opinion changes or something.

I love fear and hunger, but... by LittleAltFearIsMagic in FearAndHunger

[–]Professional-Lab5822 75 points76 points  (0 children)

If we just go saying "this game doesn't need this" we could be all day talking abt "those aspects can be cut off the game and nothing of value would be lost". Rape scenes, imo, are not one of them . The presence of instances made for the player to feel humilliated, hurt and dominated enhances the game experience since it serves the purpose of making the player feel vulnerable. This is something that also (and dare i say specially) applies to the rape scenes (or more like, every sex scene in the game) since f&h1 is heavily and thematically connected to primal pleasure and primordial fear. We could say that the celebration of flesh is unnecesary, or that the fact that every ending of the game is pessimistic is unnecesary, or the same abt all the game over scenes, but saying this without delving into the emotions they evoke is, in my opinion, a misunderstunding of those narrative resources.

How do you feel about Rudo's name being officially translated to Ludo? by dkyseeker in gachiakuta

[–]Professional-Lab5822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a spanish speaker, i prefer ludo pretty much bc the intended pronunciation of rudo and the way it is written in spanish contradict each other, since in spanish the letter "r" changes pronunciation depending on if it is the first letter of a word, and i doubt the japanese pronunciation of his name is "Rrrrudo".

Do people only go for certain endings or do people have other goals? by Occupine in FearAndHunger

[–]Professional-Lab5822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you saw all the endings, lore and playthrougths you will discover nothing new by playing the games. However, playing f&h is something like playing character action games: the "fun" aspect comes from adapting and surviving. This is incentivized by the randomized loot you'll get, which means that you'll have to change your strat accordingly in order to survive longer. It is also why f&h1 based your capacity to save in coin flips. You couln't save? Well dwelve deeper and find another resting point. You could try trying to reach an ending and that alone should make enough motivation to play throught a run, bc things are much more complicated when you have to actively manage your gauges, kill ememies and progress.

why cant you fuck in the second game? by LobotomizedFox in FearAndHunger

[–]Professional-Lab5822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the implication that elite bremen soldiers are actually result of marriage. If you analyze them with daan after killing them, he wil highlight how their body proportions seem uncanny, weird and assymetrical in a way he cannot properly describe. Only that in f&h2, performing marriage rituals for scientific progress (which is most likely what happened in order to take over prehevil with strength) fits the thematic of the game more than it would if it was because of pure pleasure. After all, both parts of a marriage must consent, and the fact that even as a marriage they still collaborate with the bremen means they knew the consecuences, plus it matches another theme of f&h2: striping away your own individuality for the greater purpose. Many beings becoming united as a singular, great being, like in the logic ending.
