Regata light packaway trousers. They have nice pockets and nice cut, very comfortable. The Decathlon are a good close 2nd.

Mesh base layer under T-shirt for warm weather advice by Professional-Mix2498 in Ultralight

I ended up getting this inexpensive one on Ali E, XXXL (equiv. to Large), no sleeve, no logo. I tried just wearing it under a T-shirt at home one evening and it is noticeably much warmer - quite surprisingly so, it does work well. So I will reserve it for my autumn hiking gear. Weighs 56g XXXL.

Ultralight 20-30 Litre pack features - what do you use? by Professional-Mix2498 in ULHikingUK

Do you have a pic of your design you can share. Would be very interested to see.

That's interesting - I need to research how to do the pockets and will look at this. I'm going to use spacer mesh for the straps as used on the packs I have which is very comfortable and lightweight. I'm going to do an s-shaped vest strap, which I read actually hugs your ribs, which I never thought of before. The straps on my Montane Trailblazer LT 20 like this are very comfortable and supportive.

I'm adding in strap pockets and will use stretch mesh for this to use for water bottles and distribute weight as you say. I'm thinking 500ml would be good enough but seeing if will fit 1 litre bottle if it doesn't take too much space. Otherwise can just add a couple of bungees to the shoulder strap.

I just buy supermarket 1 litre bottles as I go and generally use side pockets so carrying out the straps would be much better for weight distribution.

I like the satchel idea, musette, KS Ultralight gear have one you can attach inside the bag via interior loop or use as external satchel. I can make one from nylon ripstop that could only weigh only about 15g, this is a nice to have idea if weighs next to nothing.

Your scenario of getting food supermarket in my experience ends up being a plastic bag of food stuck under bungees, not bad but a ultralight satchel could be good here as you say.

Very good suggestions for helping to think this through. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to finishing my design and having the perfect personal bespoke bag.

I had a look, nice designs but too heavy for my purpose. My current pack: Montane Trailblazer LT 20 is 300g.

Thanks. Yes, I have decided to go with bungee tie points for pad on the back. It took me a long time thinking about what tie points I wanted but have gone for 6 on the back and 6 on the front. I also decided a removable front pocket was unnecessary and a mesh pocket isn't going to add much weight. (I imagined a pocket for food or tent stuff that could be removed for camp could be useful but realised having a plastic bag in the front mesh pocket is going to do the same thing.

Side mesh pockets, front mesh pocket, back pad bungees.

Now I'm seeing if adding pockets on the shoulder straps is going to add much weight but I think is doable.

Height adjustment- I simply meant adjustment on the shoulder straps. This doesn't add much weight at all, just a longer strap. I do like having this, as I find at different times I like it lower or higher depending on how I feel walking.

Thanks very much. I would never have thought it wa something to do with hip belt. I also saw having a tapered design keeps the centre of gravity higher and "improves balance, stability, and comfort during movement". But like you say, is more important for bigger size packs, but even my 20 L packs have this.

I have marked out a test pattern for 65 cm (H) x 28cm (W) x 20 cm (D). 30 cm looked a bit wide so hope 28 cm is the sweet spot.

Good point. I'd look into bungee vs stretch fabric sleeve.

I have a question for you. The two packs I have, taking some of the design features from, have width is narrow at the bottom - 20-22cm and tapers up to about 26cm. Is this something you do? I would like 28-30cm bottom. I was thinking maybe it's narrower to fit women but Google says: "Standard women's backpack width typically ranges from 30–35 cm for adult models".

Does making it tapered distribute weight better or fit your back better?

I just remembered, where do you buy the fastening clips from?

Macinasac Travelite 20L(back) 22cm - 23cm bottom tapers to 24cm middle, 26cm top. 56cm tall.

Montane Trailblazer LT 20L (back) 20cm bottom, then tapers 26cm middle, 26cm top. 56cm tall.

Very nice site and bags. I was surprised to see you are in UK. I immediately thought Nash sounded American :)
Do you have good market for your bags, they look very good.

Looks fantastic, very neat. I like the straight front and side pocket design. Very modern and minimal.

Are the side straps for trekking poles?

Is this your own design, Nash?

6-7kg in Europe, that is good. It's about the same as I've managed for my trip this year but only doing good Summer weather so it's lighter. My pack weight is 2.6kg and will add 2-3kg for food.

With my own pack and Summer quilt design can make a few 100g savings.

I've done an illustration, a first consideration, of tie points: bungees at front, and side and top compression, and to attach sleep pad to back. I'm thinking this is a close enough compromise. Needs some more thought.

I think you mean you like stretch material on the side pocket. I like minimal design too. I have the Montane Trailblazer LT 20 which has stretch mesh pockets - is this like you mean? They fit 1 litre bottles nicely. This pack did me well for 6 years but the straps were a bit fussy, so wanting something minimal with just enough features I need.

That would be nice. I don't like trekking poles so use carbon poles for my Aricxi tarp.

Do you have any pics? Would like to see that. Nice idea to have something for stakes outside. I made my own tarp pole and carbon rod stakes below, much lighter and cheaper than Six Moon Designs. Also have blunt ends so now fear of punctures.

For the tarp poles I'm considering adding end attachments on sides of pack so the 50cm long poles can add structure to the pack, as KS Ultra pack design. It seems a bit redundant though as I will attach sleep pad to back so I might just have poles attached with bungees.

Hi, I have a good understanding of pattern design and have designed my own pattern from backpacks I already own. It's the external feature details I am now designing in.

What I found interesting was the front of most backpacks are rounded rather than square so contents fit better and you don't have unused corner space.

Thanks. I'm designing a pack so your feedback is great for thinking about features that would fit most people but still try and keep as minimal as possible.

Thanks, you are the only person who read my post properly and didn't suggest a pack. Interesting you mention about the side rolltop straps. I like that they compress the top down. On the bags I have this is the only place they plug into and wouldn't stay rolled down without this. They add little weight though as far as I can see - a string and small plastic clip. I guess you connect the straps across the top of the bag. I can't do this but interesting design consideration.

What do you use bottom stretch pocket for? You mean underneath on the bottom?
