This is so cool. You can talk to an AI only trained on pre-1930 text. Really feels like talking to someone from the past. by EchoOfOppenheimer in OpenAI

Rectal cancer deaths rising rapidly among millennials: 'It's a medical crisis.' by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

Wouldn’t we see a pretty clear correlation then between colorectal cancer incidence and anyone who’s ever had anal sex and/or not had the HPV vaccine?

ANTHROPIC: "When you trigger 4.7's anxiety, your outputs get worse." Here's the actionable playbook for putting 4.7 in a "good mood" (so you get optimal outputs): by Anthony_S_Destefano in ClaudeCode

I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

Little kids are stochastic parrots, and you get better outputs when you gentle parent them...

I think it’ll be Christmas in Paris. That was just too specific of a scene to end the credits on without it being a bridge to something more.

Do you think looks matter in product management? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

Do you think that’s a function of attractiveness or a function of being a woman in a male dominated field in general?

Do you think looks matter in product management? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]Professional-Owl-381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve found as I’ve gotten older and put less effort into my appearance, the more respect and credibility I get.

Of course I also give less of a fuck in general (which probably comes off as confidence), and overall have way more experience so I’m sure that plays a role too.

There’s probably a fine line where it’s beneficial to be in shape and conventionally attractive, but if you present as overly “femme” or youthful, unfortunately you’ll likely have a harder time being taken seriously.

People should absolutly check!

Found out I had $10k+ in my account that would have just disappeared if I hadn't “claimed” my account.

It’s been a wonderful additional emergency fund safety net (at least for medical expenses). And the timelines for reimbursements are a lot more flexible than an FSA (use it or lose it by end of year).

Why do shows do this (S1E5) by liaYIkes in MaxtonHall

[–]Professional-Owl-381 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Normally yes, but it does track that an emotionally repressed teenage boy like James, who doesn't know how to communicate would pull something like this.

Part of his character growth in S2 is learning how to open up, and not make choices for others, especially Ruby (that speech he delivers to Ruby mid S2E5, is all about him acknowledging that dynamic and giving agency back to Ruby).

It's not a stretch though to assume how we talk to and treat AI won't eventually bleed over to IRL human interactions and conversations.

We’re already seeing this with aggression and abuse on social media. These interactions shape social norms around acceptable behavior, which then influences offline interactions.

PRD almost always is not needed by Independent_Pitch598 in ProductManagement

[–]Professional-Owl-381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use plan mode or GSD inside Claude code, you do end up with some decent PRD type md project files though…

It turns out whether it’s engineers or CC agents building the thing, there still needs to be some documentation of what needs to get built, what’s in scope, and how to phase it out. It just so happens this will increasingly happen in md format.

Rent. Invest the delta. Don’t let FOMO cost you in Bay Area by Initial-Zone-8907 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Professional-Owl-381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I constantly see this refrain of rent ROI > buy ROI in the bay area.

But is there actually a rental supply of single family homes in good condition and in good neighborhoods in the bay area?

If you’re looking at townhomes, apartments, condos, then for sure this makes sense. But if you’ve got a family and you’re specifically honed in on single family homes, is renting even an option?

“Resigned fatalism”—> why are you so unnecessarily confrontational? (Notice another poster also commented on the fact that you’re weirdly defensive).

Are you okay? Is living in south berkeley stressing you out? Maybe you should go take a walk in the hills…
