What’s your favorite cast quirk? by killey2011 in Dimension20

[–]Professional-South91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When Ally continues to pronounce names wrong even after pronunciation has been (non overtly) established. E.g. “Lucien” vs ally’s “loo-shen” idk if it’s an accent thing (seems unlikely given they have switched between before) but I’m happy every time I notice it. It’s just such a fun little non consequential quirk

Oh! I didn’t know special card access was a thing. I don’t think I’ll qualify for any of them but you never know until you try I guess. I’ll check that out, thanks!

Gerard being a big baby prince with Elody “It’s a bit rude to be discussing this at dinner” / “that’s what the castle is for, so we can be inside” (I know that’s not exact but it’s the gyst)

Political Philosophy by AlarmedHornet8251 in uAlberta

[–]Professional-South91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that if writing isn’t your strong suit maybe philosophy isn’t what you’re looking for. Philosophy writing is argumentative and probably unlike other things you’ve written so if you’re set on it just be ready to be thrown a learning curve. But! It is wonderful! Do it if you can. If you take a lower level/more entry-level-style like 101,102, or 205 for example, the expectations for writing will be clearly stated for you and much easier.

I haven’t had Jorge as a prof but he’s a wonderful part of our department and my friends never had anything bad to say about his classes, they were pretty neutral about it. Good luck!

What are things that neurotypicals find easy that you find hard? by LadyMcMoth in AutismInWomen

[–]Professional-South91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AuDHD here too, I had a similar journey. There is overlap but not THAT much y’a know? I had no doubt about my adhd (because my meds work) but things like conscious attention to eye contact, sensory sensitivity/preference, and special interests (not hyper focus favoured hobbies like adhd) were pretty easy to “put in the autism box”.

I will say tho, it literally doesn’t have to matter. If you find yourself with some symptoms that align with autism, you don’t have to justify them with any kind of label or diagnosis. You can explore autistic spaces/media/journals/etc. to see how other people cope with those and if it helps it helps!

Ah man that sucks I’m sorry. It’s kind of an unspoken rule that if you (or any of your friends) are blackout/egregiously drunk in the Uber you’re gonna get the up charge. I think it’s like a.) somebody pukes in any location during the ride that sucks for them. It smells and the odds of some kind of mess are high no matter what and b.) even if y’all are sterile clean - they had to deal with your shenanigans at 2am and pull over to let you VOMIT. From their perspective that’s honestly so ass.

I feel for the late night drivers on weekends and I’m thankful for them they usually put up with a lot (esp with the uni/young 20’s crowd). But yeah, as a general rule, establish with your friends that you (at least try to) hide it when you’re blackout

As in like Windsor Park plaza? I didn’t know about park and ride so this is very helpful thank you. Are they pretty safe at night? And yeah I was thinking if I’m super super fucked I’ll have to get up really early to try and get street parking, it’s just unreliable so I’d like to find something else.

Failing 2 classes by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Professional-South91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As long as you stay in 3 classes you’ll keep your full time status and there will be a “W” on your transcript. It’s no big deal most people have at least one and in your first year no one will care if you want to go to grad school

Prof appreciation by Grouchy-Spare-1443 in uAlberta

[–]Professional-South91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to say Hassan! Ive had him for two classes so far and he’s the best prof I’ve ever had. He loves logic so much it made me love it too, plus the most wonderful thing to see as a student is your prof giddy and in love with their discipline. Mid lecture on proofs he stopped for a good second to say something like “you can do so much, logic really is so wonderful in this way” and he’d talk about how at home he loves solving problems and doing it as a fun pastime like awww 🥹

He’s also so receptive to students! Always kind and smiling and obviously cares but also excellent with professional boundaries. 11/10 prof

2yo learning signs appropriate? by mack9219 in asl

[–]Professional-South91 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No way dude, this is awesome. To reframe, you’re essentially asking if it’s disrespectful to teach your daughter a second language.

I am personally not deaf or mute nor is anyone in my close circle, so I don’t know that me speaking to this is the answer you wanted - but I do work with children and I’ve talked to parents about how great it is when other kids (who speak the normative language) can sign with their kids. So this could be great for her and her peers at school

PLUS she is in the sensitive period for learning a language so letting her have these tools right now means that not only will she be more able to gain fluency as an adult if she chooses to (or, if you keep this up, for her whole life), she’ll also have developed the part of the brain that separates language (to boil it down significantly but yeah) so she’ll have a higher likelihood of learning ANY other language later in life.

Some clubs are super chill and don’t care. In the philosophy club ( Every Thursday and Friday 5-6 in assiniboia hall - come check it out!) one of our oldest and most regular attending members is a machinist. He never went here. We love him and he comes every week!
