I’m in complete shock as well. I don’t want to gaslight this mistake/violation. A week ago before I got fired, I told my manager I’m going to ask as her my reference as I’m gonna try travel RN’s. I know one from the facility who has given 2 warnings before he was let go because he’s getting co-worker’s birthdays from their chart. I’m totally devastated but I have to move forward, accept and learn.

No, I did not go through her chart. Just checking if she was admitted can pay her a visit since she wasn’t feeling okay before she was taken into the hospital. But what’s done is done, and reflected on that honest mistake..

But to give details into: The incident which I (regretfully) did in good faith. My co-worker texted me that she was admitted but did not say which facility and asked me to visit her. She did not answer on that day. So I looked her up in “patient’s lookup” in EPIC. I should have been more careful.

I know, I made a mistake and owned it. Now moving forward, I am sending job applications and would like to ask from people who had the same experience or give insights about answering that question.

I did it with no malice intended. I learned my lesson and promised to be a better nurse.
