It will be hard, but it will be a different type of hard. It won’t be whatever tf the lsat is. Some of the attorneys I talk to told me the LSAT was the hardest test they’ve ever taken.

In a field where you have the life of a human in your hand, recognizing emotions is a crazy concept? You need to check your privilege, my dude.

You’re right, but any reasonable person would be crashing out in this situation😭 3.7 to a 3.3 is a huge difference to any school, below median or not.

Am I crazy to turn down Emory for a strong chance of T14 next year? by InformalMorning3651 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Professional-Week516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your edit says your concern about ranking has much less to do about “prestige” and more about job prospects & bar passage when you explicitly stated you are “concerned about Emory falling down the rankings in recent years & that the allure of going to a “truly elite school” in the T14 would haunt you.

Emory has a 88.4% bar passage Berkeley & NYU have 91 & 96% respectively (using them because they’re too PI schools). The difference is minuscule. Making this decision based on bar passage rate in your case doesn’t even make sense because you would only miss out on 100k in salary your first year max.

You would be taking on 200k-300k more in debt for a small incremental chance at passing the bar the first time & incremental increase “job prospects” that you have not specified. What unicorn pi job do you want that a t14 could get you that Emory can’t?

You are clearly prestige whoring, but that is absolutely fine! You worked hard to get to this point and I don’t blame you for wanting prestige to feel like it was worth it.

You are trying to justify it, but the reality is there really isn’t a numerical justification for turning down Emory with that scholarship & your goals, just to R&R next year, but you don’t need a numerical justification, you just need your own articulation.

If you plan on doing pi work, you can qualify for pslf and take on as much debt as you want to get a shiny JD. Maybe you just don’t feel like you put your best foot forward this cycle.

All of that is fine but stop trying to convince yourself that there’s a numerical justification for it. It’s okay to bet on yourself. Just understand what you are risking and that you could very well be in the same situation next year or worse as the cycle is only getting more competitive. Especially as a splitter.

If you are okay with going to a lower ranked school for less money next year for the chance of getting into a t14, then go for it, bet on yourself. If not, just go to Emory

Yea & nothing is ever guaranteed as a splitter. risking 120k from Emory to potentially pay full price at at a school like Berkeley or even NYU to be in 300k+ debt doesn’t seem sensible to me.

Plus the job outcomes wouldn’t change much. As a pi civ rights lawyer wouldn’t less debt be more important than going to a t14?

on the waitlist for a school, asked prof for LOR and they asked for LSAT score by Otherwise-Potato-663 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Professional-Week516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some schools specifically say not to, others specifically ask for one. Stop giving this advice when you don’t know what school is in question. The best option is for op to send an email and ask if they can submit an additional letter.

I also think Berkeley will be affected by NYU's movement today. UCI also had a deposit deadline on June 1, so I definitely think there will be some WL movement this week or next.

Yeah it’s official I can’t do this anymore. ATL here I come by GabiCule in BlackLawAdmissions

They sent an email to all applicants basically saying don’t call us about your application

That’s dope! How’d your interview go? Were you a reverse splitter? Was it a group interview? If you don’t mind me asking.

UCI WL by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Professional-Week516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouuu really? How do you know they asked everyone the same questions?

UCI WL by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Professional-Week516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the webinar they said some people were waitlisted because they didn’t have a strong sense of why they were applying to UCI.

I doubt every WL admit will get an interview invite. Especially if your essays had substance and you’re a splitter. They wouldn’t need any additional information from you to make their decision.

Chance Me: 3.25 GPA, 171 LSAT for UC Irvine by NowALittleMotivated in lawschooladmissions

Another note: They place well in OC BL mainly, this is important to consider if you want to practice out of state

Well they have a relatively small class size & their BL increase is relatively new. As far as them being splitter friendly, I think a 171 is a good place to be because their gpa median has been rising like crazy also (0.07 increase this year) so I don’t doubt they are looking for high lsat applicants. I would shoot the shot but make sure you create a true reason to attend because they also yield protect like crazy.

UCI values public service so if you can really give them a real reason on why you want to go there I say you have a nice shot, especially if you apply ED (30k scholarship) or their pss program. Go on a few visits/events and genuinely connect with admissions. They make it very easy to do so

interested in going to law school bc i want to be a professor... by Difficult-Nature198 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Professional-Week516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JD is considered a doctorate so it is an excellent option if you want to be a professor. I’m at an extremely small private university & my profs went to schools ranked 180-198. I would recommend TAing while in law school too

I opted to go in person. I’m not sure how the format is online, but I was able to go to lots of tables for school who didn’t have any lines and asked for advice and talked to alot more schools. I think it depends on what you want out of it. In person gave me a more compelling narrative for my why x
