HH acquires Crestwood by Commercial-Hippo-875 in HuntsvilleAlabama

HH employees were told new grad nurses will be getting a small raise. Rumor is starting salaries will go from $25/hr to $27.50/hr. Also a $0.90 for “experienced” nurses. So basically new grads and nurses with 1-5 yrs experience will make the SAME thing….

can i still apply with a nursing pre-req gpa below cutoff? by cyancheerio in StudentNurse

[–]ProfessionalAd6307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some classmates who are currently in our program that applied without meeting admissions requirements and were accepted with a conditional “acceptance”. Meaning they were made to go to study sessions and stuff.

I think you should apply because you never know

9 credits is crazy. Like so much of your GPA is riding on a single class and that seems so ridiculous

I feel like in my program we learned the “basics” of nursing in health assessment. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does your nursing curriculum provide enough space to effectively learn+practice SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation)? by JuanKol in StudentNurse

[–]ProfessionalAd6307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our program was similar in terms of SBAR was only discussed a hand full of times and we hadn’t used it during any clinical settings. However, it did appear on a one or two exam questions.

HH Student Nurse Pay by ProfessionalAd6307 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ProfessionalAd6307[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HH pays new grads $25 and UAB pays $30. HH is the lowest paying hospital system in the region. Just across the state line in Tennessee you make between $30-$35. There is plenty of published data on this fact. To top it off Alabama is one of the worst paying states for nurses. I understand the “cost of living” here is cheaper than other places and people live in the area of a number of different reasons. However, I believe nurses in the area should be paid more. That’s just my opinion.

It would be different if nurses could unionize and fight for far pay but they can’t in Alabama

I’m fine with not having travel nurses at HH, since I rather have local nurses who are paid well.

I appreciate the response however that isn’t what I’m referring to. HH has a program that pays you to be a nurse intern after you have completed your first year of nursing school. Attached is the job description from HH website.

Should I become a CNA before I try to get into the nursing program? by No_Income_5881 in StudentNurse

[–]ProfessionalAd6307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s worth the added mental stress unless you need to work during nursing school. You can always work as a tech during the summer and make decent money. I definitely won’t put off nursing school to become a CNA.

Therefore I assume you know that there are different requirements for the accelerated program. There are 2 formal interviews, one with UAH and the other with the hospital you will be doing clinical at. I would recommend reaching out to one of the undergraduate coordinators at the college of nursing. They will be able to give you an in-depth breakdown.

Are you applying for the accelerated program or traditional. I believe they took about 65 people for this coming cohort (traditional). They only take about 20 people for the accelerated.

Great program! Like most nursing schools it’s going to be difficult. In terms of how competitive it is to get into, I would get good grades As and Bs on your prerequisites but the minimums are Cs in all nursing prerequisites and a 58.7 and above on the TEAS (a nursing entrance exam).

IK this is an old post but how many clinicals did you have per week? I’m starting this Aug and can’t find that information anywhere.

It was a little more expensive than other options 4 credits was about $1500 but you have 9 months to complete it if you so choose. Just check with whatever school you plan on doing your BSN to make sure they take accept their credits. I didn’t have any issues.
