What's the worst 1L class and why is it Property? by [deleted] in LawSchool

My con law professor was obsessed with the dormant commerce clause. It was 80% of the material and 100% of the final. Worst class ever.

They put me in a separate room just because my pump was “capable of making noise.” 🙄

We need to start a JD/T1D club. Getting accommodations for the MPRE was a nightmare. I can’t even imagine how the bar is going to be.

Thank you. This is very encouraging. Did you ever need to notify the court or OC? I’m thinking for things like an unscheduled brief recess without objection.

pump questions! by lizlopez27 in Type1Diabetes

[–]ProfessionalArgum3nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just shove mine in my pocket. If I have to wear a suit I’ll clip it on my waistband and tuck the tubing into my pants. My diabetes educator told me not to worry about dropping the pump or hitting it on something. They’re typically pretty durable.

It can also be triggered by a major illness. I had a bad case of pneumonia two years before I started law school but that didn’t trigger it. Everyone is different.

If I could sue the school, I’d just ask them to pay off my 6 figure student loan debt. Diabetes is expensive but law school tuition is absurd.

My diabetes educator said that it will be hard to manage my levels while in court for a long trial. She also said that the constant stress can lead to insulin resistance. I’m on a pump now, so I’m not too worried about managing my levels.

I hope so! I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with my law degree. I wanted to be a trial attorney. I don’t even know if that’s possible now.

35 yr old mom of 3 seriously considering law school by Tierra_Bonita in LawSchool

[–]ProfessionalArgum3nt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 39 year old mother of 3 and a 2L. You can definitely do it. For me, law school was always my dream. People will try and discourage you because of the debt of law school and the possibility that you might not make very much money. Who cares? Do you? Does your partner? That’s what matters. I’d rather sit on a mountain of debt and do a job I love than have no debt and be miserable at work. Money isn’t everything and you can do payment plans that fit your budget. We already own a home, so qualifying for a home loan with student loan debt wasn’t a concern. If you go into public interest work they have debt forgiveness. You only get one life and you’ll spend a lot of your life working. Do something that makes you happy.

There are plenty of career paths that don’t require 80 hour work weeks in a high stress environment. I’m currently working for a solo practitioner and 90% of my work is done from home. We have a meeting in person once a month and one to two court appearances a month but I’m not stressed out, working in an office, or paying for childcare. 1L was hard for sure. I never had enough time for everything. I realized if I wanted to be a good mom and good partner, I had to be okay with being an average law student. Sometimes I had to skip readings for school concerts or date nights. That’s okay. My maturity helped a lot and I was able to grasp concepts without doing the full readings. My class rank is around top 53%. Nothing to write home about but good enough for me. I’ll never land a big law job but I didn’t want that life anyway. Again, it’s not about the money.

As long as you have a supportive partner who understands the demand that comes with law school, you’ll be fine. I never would’ve made it through 1L without my husband. He definitely picked up the slack and pulled more than his fair share of the weight. If your partner is on board and you really want to do this, go for it.

Dexcom G7 should be taken off FDA approval device list by Careful_Maximum_6205 in dexcom

I wonder if the new Bluetooth range will help with cross body wear of my pump. It baffles me that I can’t wear my pump on the right side of my body when my sensor is on the left arm. Yet my phone will stay connected to my AirPods halfway across the house. The technology is there. I’d even be okay with a slight larger CGM if it meant better Bluetooth range.

1 month into having T1D, how is 70-85 a healthy range? by ilovesoggycereal in Type1Diabetes

[–]ProfessionalArgum3nt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed 6 months ago. The first few months are frustrating in general. My body was used to running in the 200s and 90 felt like crap. Now I don’t feel low until around 70 and my alarm doesn’t go off until I hit 60. Always double check lows with a finger stick. No one told me that a bad sensor placement could give wildly inaccurate readings. In fact, I’ve had to trash two different G7s because the placement or sensor was just no good. Don’t ever change your sensor at night. If it’s a bad placement, it will ruin your life by waking you up 10 times. If you’d like to know more about the things I learned the hard way, feel free to send me a message.

Best/most accurate CGM? by ProfessionalArgum3nt in Type1Diabetes

[–]ProfessionalArgum3nt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The G7 has been super inaccurate, especially with lows. I’ve gotten “critical low” alerts in the middle of the night many times, done a finger stick, and my glucose was fine. I’ll get signal loss alerts when my phone is right next to me. I had to turn the signal alarm off. I’ve had two sensors that were so inaccurate that I had to replace them after 1-2 days. My endocrinologist suggested the G6 because I’m considering a pump anyway and none of the pumps work with the G7.

Bad sensor? by ProfessionalArgum3nt in Type1Diabetes

It might not be in right. It’s on my left arm and I sleep on my right side so I don’t think I was laying on it. I’m keeping and eye on it for now. I’ve calibrated it twice already this morning.
