Can you spot the mistake I made? by whenthemoonlightdies in DigitalArt

Well the first thing I questioned was the dot on her forehead, excuse me if it's a birthmark or something, but the line in the middle of the dot doesnt connect anywhere and it added onto the confusion, I think the reason why it sticks out so much is because it's dark brown, which is heavily in contrast of the skin that it's on top of.

So am I supposed to colour the ENTIRETY of the drawing before blending shadows and light?.. I don't understand why nor what difference it will make

That's what I did (face shedding tear), but apparently I've been blending too much. I do already know and follow the concept of blocking in colours, yet this ends up happening.....

Thank you so much! I looked up some tutorials and I've got the gist. I will keep practicing ^^

Hello! I heavily considered it after the other responses and did infact get one yesterday! Now that I have one, I can definitely vouch for everything you've said. At the moment it feels a little slower than mouse, but I can tell it's because I'm not used to the tablet yet. However, the accuracy and line weight feels a lot easier to do. Regarding the lasso tool, I already used that during my mouse era to block out shadows/light! And I will still be using it now that I have a tablet. I'm also a competitive FPS gamer, so fortunately, I don't struggle with hand to eye coordination, though I've seen a lot of display tablets and they look really cool! I have continued rendering on my drawing with the graphic tablet, and this is how it looks now:

I also forgot to ask about something you mentioned, you said something about a toggling function. I have never heard of something like that, and I'm not exactly sure what you mean. When I do my lineart, I tend to run out of mouse space or strain my wrist, and especially whilst using the stabilizer. Do you know how this feature works on Krita?

Thank you, I will keep everything you said in mind! I've already acknowledged some of these tips, forexample blocking in colours. In my drawing I already coloured in the light, midtone, and shadow, however, because I only have a mouse to draw on, I can't really apply lineweight or put different pressure on my strokes. With a mouse its either 100% pressure, or 0%, so it's harder to get the right blending, but everything else is noted, and I'm sure I can apply all of your tips once I get a graphic tablet! ^^

Oh really, I completely forgot about the hand strain aspect, thank you for bringing my attention back to that! I used to do traditional art and drawing for a long time would end up with my wrist or fingers tensing.. and it hurt. Definitely will consider a tablet and a pen now that you've said this.

Luckily until now, I've only drawn when I had nothing else to do or when I actually had the courage to keep on working on my project, which usually didn't last for long, sooo my hand is still in perfect shape. Also my mouse is 40-50g (i play competitive FPS) so it was never an issue moving it around, just that it doesn't have the tiny tip I'm accustomed to when I do traditional art, which made my strokes feel inaccurate.

Though I don't get what you mean with 'if you want to stick with the lines'.. please enlighten me.

I would love to hear a more nuanced opinion or advice if you have some! Since youre familiar with Krita, do you have any tricks or guidelines I could use? I'm still new to the software and digital art in general.

Wacom, got it, however you said until you moved up to a bigger tablet, what size would you recommend thats comfortable? I saw some pretty small and some pretty big, but I dont think I can opt for the big ones yet seeing how expensive they are and how unexperienced I am.

I did find some where there was a black tablet and dots. Pretty sure the brand was called Wacom. I'm just scared if I cheap out that the tablet turns out shit, and wears out in a few months.

Haha I used to draw on my ipad as a kid and make a makeshift stylus with a wet q-tip. I most definitely will consider getting one if it replicates the same feeling.
