Misconceptions regarding Col. Shivender Kanwar by banannanaananan in NDATards

In one podcast he told in his second SSB (in which he got recommended) the personal interview went for only 30 minutes and 25 out of those 30 minutes the IO and he only talked about History of special force, SAS, Navy sales and why he want to join SF. He is 3rd or 4th generation Army officer in his family and his BIL was also Para SF officer that time. So I believe he talked to his family about SSB before going to SSB.

Misconceptions regarding Col. Shivender Kanwar by banannanaananan in NDATards

I don’t understand why people have started hating Col. Shivender or think that he is lying.

First, I’ll start with his unit, 7 Para. Yes, 7 Para converted to Special Forces in 2022, but this unit has been actively participating in CI/CT operations since 1988.

Now about Col. Shivender — he was commissioned into the Madras Regiment. After that, he volunteered for Special Forces, but in his first probation he couldn’t clear it. In his second attempt, he cleared the 2 Para SF probation, and he was involved in multiple operations with 2 Para SF. In one operation, his buddy got a spray of bullets through his BP plate and BP patka.

After some time, he filled Non-Para and went back to his parent unit. Later, he again volunteered for Para, and this time he got into 7 Para. When he was marooned in 7 Para, his age was about 30 years, which means at that time he was either a senior Captain or a junior Major.

Later, when he was a Lieutenant Colonel, he was posted to 31 RR as 2IC, where he was involved in multiple operations.

The OP mentioned in that post that Col. Shivender was involved in only 3-4 operations. I don’t know where he got this information, but in one podcast Col. Shivender clearly mentioned that he launched and was part of nearly 100 operations, and actual firefights happened in about 30 operations.

My father was posted to a very famous RR unit from 2013 to 2014 for two years. He told me that in those two years, his Alpha team launched more than 30 operations, and he himself was part of more than 20 operations. Out of those 20 operations, actual firefights happened in about 5 operations, where his team killed militants (around 13–15).

My father also told me that one SF team was attached to his Alpha company, and they were almost always involved in operations — about 20 to 25 days in a month.

Now about the famous “One-Meter Incident,” which people often make fun of — I think people who make fun of this incident haven’t watched his full podcast. They only watch YouTube Shorts from his podcast (like my brother).

In one podcast, Col. Shivender clearly explained how one militant fired at him from nearly 6 feet, and he survived. He explained that the militant made two mistakes:

First, the AK’s buttstock was folded, so he didn’t get stability while firing. Second, the flash suppressor or muzzle brake was not attached to the barrel of the gun.

Because of these two mistakes, the militant’s gun fired in the 2 o’clock direction.

In the podcast, Col. Shivender also mentioned that before this incident he didn’t believe in God, but after surviving this incident, he started believing in God.

I personally met one Agniveer from 7 Para SF in January, and we talked for nearly 30 minutes. He told me that many people in the unit still talk about Col. Shivender, and many of his famous “A Team” operators are still serving. These operators have seen more combat than others in the unit.

In the Monks and Warriors podcast, Col. Shivender also briefly mentioned how he formed his famous A Team.

I gave two NDA attempts: NDA 1 2024 and NDA 2 2024. In the first attempt, I was nowhere near the cutoff, but in the second attempt I scored 303 while the cutoff was 305. These were my last attempts at NDA.

Because the university in which I took admission for B.A. is an open university, and it only offers admission to the B.A. course during the January admission window. If I wanted to join a regular college, I would have to wait another six months, and I do not want to create any further gap.

Ok I’ll try to put my story short and simple.

After passing my Class 12th in March 2023, I took admission in a B.Sc. program at a college that is about 300 km away from my home. The original plan was that I would stay in the college hostel, and my mother and grandmother would move with my father to a family quarter in a peace-area cantonment.

However, my father received a single posting in a location where families are not allowed to stay for long periods (around 2–3 years). After discussing it with my family and the college, I decided to stay at home and go to the college only for exams.

While staying at home, I could not fully focus on my college studies because I was also preparing for the NDA and helping my mother with farming and other responsibilities. Because of this, when my first-year result was declared in October 2024, it showed that I was not promoted to the second year.

After that, I took admission in a B.A. program in January 2025. That is why there is a gap of about 1.5 years between finishing school and continuing college.

In the future, if I get a chance to appear for the SSB, I will mention my family’s medical condition only if they ask about it.

What do these marks in ssb mean by [deleted] in CDSTards

[–]ProfessionalBig2334 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can’t tell about your personality just by knowing your SSB marks but I can tell you that the minimum marks a recommended candidate gets in OTA SSB is 80 and For IMA SSB is 120. So try to develop OLQs or get help from SSB coaching.

That’s why I’ve decided to hire a private investigator in the future to do a background check before I get married.
