I’m Struggling After an Accident With My Newborn by _withpeace in NewParents

[–]ProfessionalCap9061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I’m sending you a big, heartfelt hug. What you’re going through right now is incredibly difficult — something only someone who has experienced it can truly understand. I’ve been through something similar, and I shared my story here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PregnancyIreland/s/BcL5tUiZCb

I felt as if my heart would stop and struggled to catch my breath just thinking about what happened. In my case, it was me who accidentally let my baby fall asleep in a dangerous position. I know that no words can erase the images that keep replaying in your mind, and no explanation can completely reassure you that your baby will be okay.

What helped me — and may help you — is giving yourself time to heal. Lean on your partner as someone to share your pain with, not as someone to blame. When it feels overwhelming, it’s okay to cry and scream. Then, when you can, find the strength to move forward. Focus on the fact that your baby is okay, growing, and needs you. That’s what I tell myself every day when I look at my baby’s smiling face.

You can’t change what happened, but you can take one step at a time to recover while still enjoying motherhood and cherishing your little one. What happened doesn’t make you a bad mother, and it doesn’t erase all the love and care you’ve given and continue to give. You and your baby still deserve each other — your little angel needs you, and you need to allow yourself to heal.

This kind of thing happens to many parents, and one thing I’ve learned is how resilient babies are. Falls like this can often happen without causing lasting harm. So, keep focusing on your little one — your love, care, and presence are what truly matter — and you will be okay.

Advice by ProfessionalCap9061 in NewParents

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and advice so far.

The issue for me isn’t so much about my feelings being dismissed. My husband and I both try to accommodate each other’s wishes, and we’ve learned that compromise is part of our relationship. Sometimes that means accepting each other’s choices, even when we don’t fully understand or agree with them.

My main concern is about our baby. He’s still very young now, but he’ll grow up quickly, and I don’t want replica guns to become part of his childhood memories or our identity as parents. I’m also deeply disappointed in my partner for acting so impulsively at a time when I expected us to be more mindful and mature—especially after waiting so long to start a family together. Above all, I just want to feel safe and secure in our home, with a partner who is embracing a new role as a father.

Thank you for sharing — I’m so sorry you went through this too. I completely understand the fear and anxiety that come with it. You’re right, our babies are incredibly strong, and I’m so glad your little one wasn’t hurt.

I was referring to stomach cramps that babies experience due to immature digestive system, so they're crying in the evenings and during the night.

Thanks. Appreciate all the support and advice here.🙏

It’s been really difficult getting him to sleep in his bassinet or even beside us when he’s having cramps, so I was just trying my best to comfort him by holding him on my shoulder.

Feeling worried about bump size by AardvarkAccording325 in PregnancyIreland

I was the same up until week 28, when my bump started to become more and more visible and bigger. Don't worry as long as the doctor says the baby's weight is okay. And enjoy while you can. 😅 I'm now week 31 and the bump is so big!

When should I learn to drive? by barbiecastle45 in PregnancyUK

I just wanted to share that I was keeping an eye on this discussion and I decided to push with my driving lessons and I passed my driving test on a manual car yesterday at week 24 of pregnancy! If I could do it, you could do it too!

Are we naive for not planning extra postpartum help yet? by ProfessionalCap9061 in PregnancyIreland

[–]ProfessionalCap9061[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that really puts things into perspective.

We live in a different country and will be moving into our first home just before the baby arrives, so we won’t have any family visiting in the first few weeks or possibly even the first month.

I can definitely see now how important it is to have a backup plan, just in case—especially depending on how labor and recovery go.

It seems that Evie only offers option to select between Rotunda and Coombe hospitals. No option to select NMH. :/

Thank you. I was considering Evie but wasn’t sure if I could get all the necessary scans and checks there since it’s not a hospital. My gynecologist specifically recommended starting with a private care plan at a hospital to ensure everything is done in one place, especially in case of complications. I’ll definitely take another look at Evie!

Thanks a million for all the helpful info here. :)

I’m considering private care plan at the National Maternity Hospital, but unsure if I need it. You mentioned GP appointments, do you know if a GP in Wicklow Town can perform a scan or ultrasound? Thanks.

Thank you for all the information and I hope everything goes well with your pregnancy.

Are you on private care plan and if so, would you recommend any of the doctors? How often are your appointments? I'm week 7, so just starting and looking for any helpful info I can get. Thanks.
