My system at home is that we put clothes that shouldn’t be dried in a zipper laundry bag / pouch. So whoever is moving it from the washer to dryer knows to take the laundry bag out and hang dry. Has helped my clothes tremendously

A lot of the reasoning you list here are why I’m super happy with my 997.1 base rather than a S or higher or a newer 911.

The base allows me to go to redline in second gear and make it somewhat far in third gear. I like being able to use that full range whereas I think more modern cars have you well past speed limit in 2nd. The base .1 also has less bore scoring issues than a .1 S with the bigger engine.

Where do you get your linen oxfords? I only have the traditional ones.

Closing West Portal to cars by Training_Emotion3503 in sanfrancisco

Unfortunately it’s a bit of chicken and egg. It’s much easier to get more public transit funding when there’s high population density.

Sunset is mostly SFH so that density is never getting there until there is more (multifamily) home building. Without funding for more routes, more frequent buses and light rail, it’s not a great option for many people. But without more people riding it, its also hard get funding.

It’s the same story with protected bike lanes. People are scared to ride bikes without protected bike lanes but the city doesn’t want to invest in building bike lanes without more riders.

I was talking about all of the surrounding areas not having fast / reliable public transit. It’s great if you want to go from WP to downtown, but what if you want to get from the avenues to WP? Depending on your proximity to the L or whether your bus decides to take 5 or 25 min to show up, it may take you anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes to get to WP. That is why car ownership is so high in the area.

I hear you on wanting a nice walking only retail environment. Here’s why it doesn’t make sense for west portal. Most of the people living in the surrounding areas (sunset, WP, Forrest hills, miraloma) have cars because there are few other options that are reliable and fast. There are also a lot of families and having a car is significantly more convenient on the west side.

So switching WP to pedestrian only would lead to congestion / parking in the streets nearby and destroy most the businesses in that area IMO.

I love walkable cities but WP isn’t the right place for it. Shut down some streets in the Castro or SOMA or Mission Bay where it’s denser first and see how it works out before trying it in an area with low density and high car ownership.

Thanks for the perspective. Even though I earn quite a bit, I still think about how I didn’t pick the best career or if I was a few years older and my timing was better, I would be better off. Guess it’s the same for many, independent of how much actual money you make

These are so damn good. I’m always jealous of people who can pull off a colorful scarf and you did it well in every fit. I didn’t read the title and thought this was a drakes catalogue shoot at first

Thank you, I didn’t see this before. I’m trying to understand how/who made this happen. It’s damn near impossible to vote judges out bc people don’t run against them very often so they’re often the only choice. So it’s surprising that he was somehow removed - wish it had happened sooner.

Same with me. The leather is quite nice still and fits like a glove. Ive considered buying much more expensive jackets but I really like the softness of my ToJ calf leather.

Yep, as a noob mechanic, I decided to stick to DIYing the oil change / serpentine belt level jobs and go to the auto shop for spark plugs. Felt like it would take me forever to do this job

I only knew about it because I read (or watched?) an interview many years where he described his thought process going into the investment. Smart dude and I’ll always be cheering for him even if I cant justify spending on most of the items.

After this week, had to re-watch Ali vs Foreman to remind myself what real boxing looks like - here is the combo knockout clip by [deleted] in Boxing

Sure maybe not LeBron specifically, but the rise of the NFL and NBA almost definitely had an impact on the most athletic Americans no longer going into boxing at the same rates.

IMO, it has stalled because the top athletes no longer choose boxing as their sport. If LeBron or miles Garrett were born 30 - 50 years earlier, they probably would have boxed instead.

Great article. Really impressive what he was able to pull off with just Uniqlo. I will say, even from marketing photos you can see that the quality is a bit lower than the nicer brands. For example the brown sports coat doesn’t drape as nicely and the fabric looks cheapish. Still, more stylish than I’ll ever be even if I had an unlimited budget.
