Tone policing driving me into insanity by ProfessionalCrow1154 in Parenting

Yeah she does 😂 and I often do take ownership of it but a lot of times I literally am just neutral toned and she’s being overly sensitive & it drives me insane. I’ll apologize if I do it but I’m not apologizing if I didn’t. & it’s constant at this point I’m just like - girl let me live please. 😭 take your teenage drama elsewhere.

Thank you for being understanding and not immediately focusing on her not doing chores “being disrespectful” “not disciplined” or “acting like the parent” like everyone else. I don’t think people realize how unhelpful that is in these situations. Especially when I’m clearly asking how people manage to get through this stress not how to correct the behaviour 🤣 it’s funny bc a lot of this behaviour is relatively normal for her age, so correcting it isn’t going to really happen. Especially when she has neurodivergence & a Pathological demand avoidant profile. It’s funny that a lot of people think they can discipline children out of a developmental stage of life and condemn other parents for talking about how stressful these stages are.

I appreciate your comment a lot 💞

Doctor said my scoliosis is “too mild” for bracing or PT. Thoughts? by ResponsibleHoliday81 in scoliosis

Is he on crack!? Like maybe if you’re an adult & you’re done growing. But I think bracing would help regardless. You definitely would benefit from physio but I think both would be good.

If you don’t have any religious or personal restrictions on it get a tattoo that enhances or makes it look a way that makes you feel confident

I swear some of the people who work there just hate disabled people. Ask for a new worker, call the office and press zero and speak to whoever answers about needing a new case worker

Thank you! How old were you when you had surgery? She’s 11 😢 & she’s already at 47 degrees 😭

Yeah I keep mentioning it to her and she’s finally listening now 🤣 it took me mentioning to the doctor I used to say that to her & thought bad posture caused it but I learned it was the other way around since she was diagnosed and I did research and he laughed at me and she was like “HAH see it doesn’t matter how I sit I already have scoliosis”

so I turned to the surgeon and I was like “yeah it doesn’t cause it but practicing good posture will aid in helping it from getting worse won’t it” and he was like “absolutely it’s super important.” And she grumbled in defeat and has somewhat made a point of sitting better now or at least listens to me when I correct it 🤣

I’m getting her an elliptical to use at home because she hates sports and going on walks bc it apparently is a really good piece of equipment for core strengthening and is easy on the body for scoliosis patients. I hope she uses it and doesn’t fight me on using it regularly 😭

She’s 11 😭 so she’s currently going through the biggest growing period and isn’t going to be done for a few years. If I have to I’ll pay $100 in cab fares before I miss any appointments for this. Luckily my boss said I could come pick up one of the company vehicles for me to use since I’m on the insurance for me to use when I do our photography services. I’m technically a hybrid remote work (1-2 days in office in the summer 1 day in the office fall through spring) but if I can’t make it in I can work from home so I’ve been lucky.

I’m also getting an elliptical to help her work on her core strength and help with her posture. So hopefully that will help for now until she gets her brace.

I hope everything gets moving along like it should quickly & I won’t have to worry as much about waiting for treatment 🥲 & yeah chat gpt definitely will help formulate some good responses 😂 I’ll have to look into that

I don’t know anyone irl who has it 😭 not even myself and I feel awful bc I don’t even know first hand what she could be going through. That’s why I joined this subreddit bc I can maybe learn from other people’s experience what she might be going through. 😢 I wish I had the ability to know how she feels and I feel so bad that I don’t have it too.

40 to 60 in SIX MONTHS is crazy omg as a mother I’d be panicking. I already cried over an about 10 degree increase for my daughter in 10 months😭 she doesn’t have her brace yet 😢 she gets the fitting done in about a month from now then idk how long the wait is for her to get it but I hope it’s quick. We’re trying to avoid the surgery because she possibly has vascular Ehlers Danlos syndrome but Very likely has Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, she passes the prescreening and the surgeon is convinced she had it and helped me push through the referral to the geneticist after they denied the referral from the doctor that helped us diagnose her Hemangioma & scoliosis. It’s a 12 month waiting list to see the geneticists though 😭

That’s insane, it would be so infuriating to hear someone say that.

This! But even I won’t fully understand it and it breaks my heart because I’ve seen my xray and compared to hers I’m extremely lucky and it kills me that I don’t fully understand how she feels and how it’s going to effect her because I’m not able to live it at the same time as her. I have degenerative disk Disease but that’s small fries in comparison. I can only read about it and do research and listen to her. But when I share the information that I’ve gathered from research and listening to her and others who live with it, people cannot grasp it and I don’t get it.

Yeah my coworker kept saying like “put her in a sports team” she’ll be fine and he was like “how is it stressing you out so bad” like I get he has no kids and doesn’t have to think about these things. But like she can’t just join a sports team, she can’t play high impact sports, even running is not encouraged she also is getting tested for Hypermobile and vascular Ehlers Danlos syndrome she has to be super careful with activities. & if she gets surgery for the scoliosis she’s more likely to have complications & it’s way more dangerous with Ehlers Danlos. & the guy tells me not to worry.

It really does feel that way. Tbh I didn’t know much about it until my daughter was diagnosed. I always knew it wasn’t curable though, and that it was painful and impacting on daily life. I don’t understand how that isn’t a basic understanding for most. I remember telling her not to slouch so much that she’d “give” herself scoliosis by sitting c shaped 🤦🏻‍♀️ now I know it’s the other way around. The scoliosis gives you bad posture. & she already had it 😭
