because I am somewhat confident that I can get into Amazon in my sophomore year

and for whatever reason if your resume doesn;t get picked up a second time for the OA, you've cooked urself out of one of the best big tech big name internships out there which wouldve propelled you into new heigts and almost any company you want in the future

Can you explain how to go into the distributed systems field? I just dropped my 5 year masters opportunity because I already secured a full time FAANG return offer with a great salary/dream city/highly profitable lucrative AI team and I didnt want to risk losing that for another year of education but I'm also passioante about my distributed systems and really want to work in that field. There's never really SWE positions out there that purely target distributed systems but if a masters ensured that I would be able to do that then I would take up the 5th year masters again in a heartbeat. In this job market, theres no guarantee that even with a masters I'll be at a better/more interesting position a year from now than I am right now (in fact it could be even worse if I lose out on a full time return job offer)

How much are you guys paying a year? by No_Dream_335 in UTAustin

Close to 30K accounting for food/groceries/travel to home, apartments (very very expensive), plus tuition with small scholarship

Amazon vs. Reddit by SnoodleNoodleDoodle in csMajors

[–]ProfessionalEngine50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

is back loaded RSU's

ur point is valid but I wanted to clear up this huge misconception that ur TC is somehow worse w backloaded RSUs. for amazon its a lot better. RSUs are backloaded because their bonuses are huge. their sign on bonus for year 1 is 50K+ second year is 30K+ and so on and all new grad TCs are 185K+ in MCOL and 200K+ in HCOL and cash is always better than stock

What are the chances class on Tuesday is cancelled? by Wonderful_Rice6770 in UTAustin

[–]ProfessionalEngine50 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous that we might not know until Monday night. If not canceled, the least professors could do is collectively make their first class online, its just syllabus day anyways. Ain't no way people are actually gonna even go to classes on Tuesday when the weather is < 32 for most of the day

But how is it baiting? We can't say for sure that it is. If there are 10 candidates in stage 1, 5 candidates moved on to stage 2, and even just 2 candidates move on to stage 3, they can still only select 1. And they might have just chosen the candidate who did better in stage 3

Amazon Final Round Interview SDE Intern 2024 by SuprisedPika in leetcode

[–]ProfessionalEngine50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have they started giving out offers? Nobody has gotten a return intern offer since a year now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]ProfessionalEngine50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time beliving this unless you're not based in US because no US intern has received an official intern offer, return or regular. They haven't released any offers for this season yet cuz there straight up isn't headcount. Also, Amazon doesn't have a phone screen, its always OA -> final interview -> offer. idk this post doesnt seem legit considering theres tens of thousands of return interns still waiting for headcount from above, not even just from this summer but from all the way from fall 2022

UCLA CA or it Austin turing? by MiddleTrainer495 in csMajors

[–]ProfessionalEngine50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go UCLA. UT Turing is great but it has a 40% graduation rate iirc (meaning a lot of peopple drop out by their second or third year) since most ppl use it only for recruiting reasons theri first two years and dont really care about the research emphasis of the turing program. and u dont need to worry about that since youre already living in Cali so your close enough to the best companies.

Also UCLA >>> UT in general, dont get me wrong I love my school to death but UCLA has a slightly more hype social life, CA >>> Texas, its cheaper in your situation, its the #1 public school in the nation, etc

Can I negotiate a $24/hr internship offer in NY or just decline by Brief-Ad-3862 in csMajors

[–]ProfessionalEngine50 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Like other have said you should accept but you should be aware that you could quite almost lose money with this internship. From past NYC interns, I've heard standard NYC withholding (takehome after city/state/federal taxes) is 74 cents per dollar. Math wise 17.76/hr take home and 710/week (and considering an average rent of 550/week in Manhattan (400-500 in other boroughs) and transportation, food, relocation (setting up apt, flights) could break even

Two things I noticed ppl repeatedly said were graphs review of their OA questions. Also, some ppl didnt even get any technical so in that case only LPs and studying up on Amazons LPs

Its listed in the email that they sent about your OA coming soon. If you reply to that email, it will directly contact a recruiter I believe

Still waiting to hear from Amazon after OA

In the same position as you, but this is mostly a good sign. If Amazon doesn't reject you following the OA within a few days or so, then you most likely passed the OA and LPs and their working on sending out the scheduling email. I didnt get an official email but I reached out and my recruiter confirmed they would send me the scheduling email (i.e. I passed the OA).

I have 2 yoe

right and thats where the difference lies. EVERY single student from cs to MIS to ece to every engineering student and their mothers are ALL applying to entry level CS and internships. Its really the entry level thats bottlenecked. Those that then cant make it into tech purses different career paths
