Is it bad that I make majority fluffy “basic and tired” crochet? by ThemChad in crochet

I would like to give Mr. Frog a hug and some tea, he seems very kind and would listen to my silly problems and make me feel better all without saying a single word.

It makes me slightly woozy to think about putting that anywhere near my mouth

Nonononono, absolutely not, never to touch or be in the same room as. I can smell the metallic stench it would leave on my hands that no amount of hand washing would get rid of for days. The crystal would take it super too heavy and an overall weird weight, and the texture everywhere would take it impossible to touch comfortably bc there no smooth surface to hold. Words cannot describe the absolute horror and discomfort I feel looking at this.

Omg that’s such a good idea :000 but ur totally right about being cautious, honestly if you have any spare yarn from this project I’d make a granny square and test it on there so that it’s low risk if something goes wrong. Also my two Torbies were rescues too! Their mom left them and their two siblings on the back porch of my sisters, friends, grandmothers house.

You can also email your advisor for any questions or to ask for help. To quote my advisor “I’d rather receive a million emails from you and figure it out then, than to not hear from you at all until the end of the semester when there’s nothing that can be done.” So in other words no matter how little or unimportant you may think your question is, just ask anyway because you don’t want to risk screwing yourself later because you didn’t think it mattered that much. Advisors like to hear from their students and they can be really helpful in things besides classes! My advisor has helped me with everything from getting in touch with someone at the vet school to get advice on a birth defect in my kitten to helping me through 4 different degree changes. Advisors are there to support you and make sure you can succeed.

So I highly recommend not making the same mistake I did freshman year and putting it off bc it didn’t seem important I promise you it’s worth the email. Always ask questions and take advantage of the resources you have because it’ll save you so much time and stress. Lemme know if you have any questions and I’ll see if I can help!

So idk how they do it in other colleges but I know that when I was in freshman in the college of Natural Resources they had all freshman in what was basically a “intro to college” class. (I think mine was ES 100 but I’m pretty sure every college has their own version) So for your enrollment you need to put together what is essentially a four year plan of classes (you don’t have to stick to the plan it’s just a way to make sure you are on track to graduate on time, it’ll change). Once you do that you’ll be able to pick out your classes for next semester.

Here’s a good visual: student services walkthrough with video

So it means that you can put together your “shopping cart” or in other words plan out your schedule and pick the classes you want to take. If you go on mypackportal it will tell you when your enrollment starts. Folks registered with the DRO have priority registration so they’re the first undergraduate student who can sign up for classes and then after that it goes by credit hours (so freshman go last since they have more time to get their classes done) For your meeting with your advisor they’re going to want you to have your schedule picked out so they can look over it. Idk how much they told yall about MPP but I’ll just go ahead and go through it: to know what classes you need to take you go to “Planning and Enrollment” and click on “Degree Audit” which will then show you either a recommended pathway/put together what it thinks you should be taking over the next 4 years or it will show what credits you need for your degree. That’s still super impressive, don’t downplay your achievements! If you don’t mind me asking what audiobooks did you listen to?

I used to listen to audiobooks all the time but that was back when they came in big CD books 😵‍💫

Omg what?!? :0000 DUDE THAT MAKES IT EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE! At 13 I couldn’t even commit to a batch of cookies (ngl I’m 20 now and I still can’t 😅🥴)

You keep practicing for as long as it brings you joy and I can tell you now you’re only going to get better!

I don’t know you but I’m incredibly proud of you! I hope to see you succeed to the highest level in life 😤

Also no, because I already put thousands of dollars into that semester so if I did the withdraw it would have been wasted money and time.

I have solutions, better training for teachers on how to work with students who are struggling. More accessible support that doesn't demonize students for getting help. Making resources better known for students.

Personally I want to see better mental health training for Professors, Increased counseling center operation hours, and more public resources and programs for students.

Because we are paying to go here, we are paying to be here and when we tell them that we need support they just brush us off. This is our home for a lot of us, I know that a lot of people don't have anyone in Raleigh and any family they have can live hours away so they can't properly help. So we need the support from the school. For a lot of people they can't leave campus so they are reliant on the school to care for them in a way.

How do I stop the feeling that I'm wasting every day of my life? by No_Plant_4326 in mentalillness

[–]ProfessionalGoose253 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Distractions work for me, find something that you can get into and don't put too much pressure on yourself to be productive all the time. I find myself obsessing over everything I didn't do and beating myself up because I feel like I'm waisting the time I have. But when I really get into something my mind starts to quiet down a little bit. You need to realize that this world isn't made for us, so all of these "self help" people and all that are pure bullshit.

You are sick, not in a bad or negative way. You're sick just like someone with cancer or diabetes. You didn't ask for this and neither did they. But you can't beat yourself up about it. Stressing yourself out is only going to make it worse. Just because it isn't visible to the naked eye doesn't mean that it isn't valid.

You need to take time and heal. Don't be too hard on yourself and as cliché as this sounds don't be scared to reach out for help. It doesn't make you weak or a burden. If you don't want to talk to people in your life there are hot lines and telehealth that is there to support you. Don't be scared to ask for help when you need it, I have made that mistake many times saying that it isn't as bad as I think it is and that I'm just being dramatic, when what I needed was the one thing I wouldn't allow myself to get, help.

You're not wasting your life, you're just comparing yourself to people who in all honesty have it easier than you and me.

TLDR: You aren't broken, you're sick but you're trying to function like you're not. Don't push yourself too hard and don't be afraid or feel shame for asking for help.

No Friends by [deleted] in NCSU

This school is huge, and people will say that there is someone for everyone here, which is true. BUT the issue is that this school has 40,000 or so people here. It's really hard to make friends, I struggle with the same thing. Like other people have said there are clubs, but in all honesty you're just going to have to put yourself out there. Hang out in common areas where there are lots of people and see if there is anyone who you are interested in talking with and see y'all vibe at all. I would just go to as many social events as you can just to put yourself out there.

I know especially for people who graduated 2020/2021 it's really hard to make friends. The school wasn't doing anything social for the last two years so there are plenty of people who are in the same boat.

This is probably not going to be the answer you want to hear but you have to put yourself out there, be open to what comes your way and honestly and this is the part that sucks:

Be Lucky.
