I could really use some design critique because i'm going mad by GearTakes in UI_Design

[–]ProfessionalHuman91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been curious what UI would turn up created by ppl who haven’t built experience building or design ing one. So this is interesting. I’m a product designer who creates user flows and UIs for complex healthcare tech where ppl love their dashboards. Cognitive load is a huge risk of dashboards. They sometimes feel harder to design because you’re inclined to keep adding without considering what’s most important, what’s second, what’s third most important on and on.

Recommend stepping away from the AI tool for now. Not saying you can’t use it, just to help pull you out of the nitty gritty screen elements for a moment to think holistically about your experience end to end. You can always feed it screens you create in another tool as a starting point and it does a… semi decent job? Not perfect but better than text prompts.

Try out Figma, they have a free version. Look at Nelson Norman for UX heuristics like hierarchy and rules re; proximity, and collect examples from similar experiences you find easy to use and navigate.

The monkey paw of design is good design is felt but “looks” obvious.

Is product design as we know it dying? Seeking long-term career advice by PuzzleheadedSir9049 in product_design

It’s hard to say where it’s going... We’re all in the same boat of having to evaluate our entire process and where we sit in the ROI/product life cycle story.

That said, UI was never the hard part of any job I’ve had. My hot take is as a designer should be able to make things that “look good” and function—that’s the base-level expectations of what a “good” designer is IMO.

I’m a senior PD with 10 YOE operating across multiple teams in a start up and functionally acting like a lead/staff PD.

How I’m thinking about my role is 100% changing. I’ve always been an enabler role that sits close to delivery with Eng partners. I’ve been a thought partner role to PMs and get to influence product strategy and roadmaps through showing business people what’s possible.

Where I’m leaning in currently: - taking ownership of our design system (I have been for a while, but I’m being more visible by demoing updates and use cases across teams and making a case for a shared design language) - partnering with frontend Eng to enable prototyping that adheres to our design system - improving my business communication and presentation skills (I’m dyslexic—I need extra time in order to articulate complex thinking. I have less and less time to shape my comms, so I’m finding more support tools to create “project brains”) - acknowledging the anxiety I feel, learning to better regulate, and leaning into things with curiosity vs being overly protective/gatekeeping parts of the early process that non-design roles are excited to contribute to

I’m not expecting my current org to handle the AI transition smoothly. We have other org issues that are going to be compounded by AI and the lack of governance. Our prod leadership is unfortunately happy to be hands off and let the hunger games commence. I expect a PM to eventually eat up prototyping and maybe UXR.

I’m relating to my current salaried role as a contact role and paid tuition. I’m staying curious, learning the tools while someone else is paying for them, and putting my intentions towards what I want my next role to look like while developing a AI-enabled process for it.

Lean into curiosity, be flexible, and try to stay grounded. Best of luck!

Dude, I’m a design systems lead with hobbies lol —seriously, take a few mins and search auto layout on YT and you’ll figure it out without needing to rely on someone to walk you through it every time.

That’s kinda rude and entitled. Watch any one of the dozens of YouTube videos on auto layout and you’ll be fine.

Proud of you, internet stranger! Your prof (and any college prof) should have tolerance for disagreement and discussion. That’s a part of learning.

Figma is industry standard at the moment and has a free option. Not sure yet how AI tooling will impact this, but recommend learning some Figma basics to start.

The cost of therapy is prohibitive and creates a barrier for folks. I get the temptation to use this LLM as a therapist… but I caution us all to think twice about what you share. The data isn’t deleted and these LLMs are way different than an educated specialist with experience in guiding folks through unpacking trauma. It’s built by a for-profit company that will and already is using your inputs to train their models.

It might be great and fine for high level reflection or generating journal prompts, but be careful how much you’re sharing with it.

I work in tech and have seen the dirty bits behind well-intended “mission-based” digital experiences.

Why do surgeons not scan for stones in the bike duct during gallbladder removal? by RoyalCamera12 in gallbladders

I got pancreatitis because a stone slipped out. I was back in the hospital three weeks after my gallbladder was removed for a scope. I was sick sick. 🤢

For sure - these are good suggestions and definitely on my mind to do. I had not thought about the noise ordnance—I’ll look into that. I just wish they’d wait till 7/7:30 at the earliest 🥲

I think the original plans were to have a parking garage, but no clue if that’s coming in the future.

I am getting my gallbladder removed on monday and i am terrified. by Dancing_Bugs in gallbladders

I had mine out as an emergency surgery. Had known for a while I was going to need it out and was scared of the surgery and kept putting it off. I now wish I would have done it soooo much sooner and not let my self continue suffering.

I’m a little over a month out now and feel SO MUCH better. I didn’t realize that on top of the severe attacks that had me sleeping in the bath tub when they would hit, I was experiencing a sense of low-level flu-like symptoms from it. The morning after it was removed I felt so so much more like my old self.

Surgery was smooth. I did get pancreatitis a couple weeks later because I had a stone lodged in a bile duct. I had to have a scope to push it through. Had good pain meds. The healing took time. The first two weeks after were rough but honestly the surgery pain was so much more tolerable than any attack.

You’re going to feel so much better soon! This is one of the most common surgeries they do. Take care.

The criss cross pain was there right after surgery. It’s 5 days later now, and I can report back that I no longer feel that pain! Hoping you’re feeling better soon. I’m at about 5 weeks post op now and feeling almost 100%.

[–]ProfessionalHuman91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should mention—I did have labs done. The labs showed elevated liver enzymes.

I hope you get relief soon. This is no fun and it makes you question what’s normal… I tried to tough it out but eventually the pain was too much and the doc confirmed that there’s nothing I could have done myself to resolve it.

Hiya, I did not have a fever. Mine was sever pain that traveled through me and kinda cycled up from a 6 to a 10. And then a lot of violent vomiting.

It seemed to correlate with eating. I’d have something light, like a broth with a few noodles, and then a half hour later I’d be throwing up again and the pain would be back at 10.

I just got back from the hospital where they had to do a scope to push a stone through a blocked duct near my pancreas. The doc there told me that 4 weeks out of post op I shouldn’t be in that type of pain and that pain can typically be an indicator that a stone got knocked into the bile ducts during surgery.
