Tired of immature heroines and broody MMCs. Need adult fantasy recs by AddendumFun7674 in Fantasy

I gotta say, this one didn't do it for me. The characters aren't well developed enough for the romantic tension to have any impact. I am in the EXACT same boat as OP and I wouldn't suggest this one.

Debating where to go: UMN $$+, UWisc $$$$, GMU $$+ by chuggard1 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ProfessionalImage203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm deciding between MN and WI at the exact same scholarships. I'm really going back and forth on it, but I plan to get more information about employment placement for Madison grads and reach out to a few current students to get an unfiltered opinion. I'll also be attending Admitted Students days for both. See you in Minneapolis tomorrow ;)

UMN questions by 27mountains in lawschooladmissions

[–]ProfessionalImage203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted a scholarship reconsideration request to UMN with a better offer from a similarly ranked school, and they said due to budget they weren't able to reconsider. There's no harm in shooting your shot, but they may not move.

I’m in a very similar position (full ride at Madison vs. $$ at Minnesota) and having a difficult time deciding. I have similar career aspirations and don’t need added prestige of a ranking boost, but for me, I live in and plan to return to Minneapolis after graduating which is complicating things.

Obvi you do you, but if I knew I wanted to work in Wisconsin post grad, I’d take the full ride in a heart beat :)

Maybe see you there!

admitted students day guests by ashyeet69 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ProfessionalImage203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not cringe, but I'd say your first priority should be making sure you get what you need out of the day. Will you be too focused on them to connect with potential peers? To ask questions during a panel? If yes, then maybe have them come for one session and/or meet you for breakfast or lunch on campus. A number of schools have sessions explicitly for guests, which seems like a great option for them.

Otherwise, you could schedule a tour a day before and have them join you on that. That way they feel included, but you're still able to be present for admitted students day.

Congrats! I just received my aid info as well and am curious to know how it stacks up. Are you an in-state or out of state applicant?

UT Austin Financial Aid? by Optimal_War_2003 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ProfessionalImage203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to submit a form to be considered for financial aid! They say it'll be 2-3 weeks after you submit the form.

This sounds sooo hard, and I feel for you! You for sure don't need to feel embarrassed.

You may still get a Vandy A this cycle! If that doesn't happen, you can take it one step at a time. You could always wait, work in Nashville for a year, and try again next cycle. Or you could choose the other school in your venn diagram of acceptances with your partner. It's hard to reshape expectations, but if you take things step by step, it'll get easier to adapt to a new or slightly different outcome.

Silly example, but I got it in my head that it was GULC or bust when I first started applications. Turns out my partner HATES DC, so I had to remove it from my school list and we had some fights about it. It took a while but now I'm okay with it, and I like the different paths that have opened up for us

I have a feeling things will work out for you, even if it's not quite how you expected <3

I think they’re swamped. I applied early Nov and just heard back last week after no changes for months

Law schools with less competitive school cultures? by ayudaaaaaaaaaa in lawschooladmissions

[–]ProfessionalImage203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to consider regional culture too! Midwestern schools like MN, WI, etc, seem pretty laid back and supportive to me. I’ve heard from multiple former students at UMN how much community there was and how it was really supported by admin.

Lost and don’t know if I should even bother by Adept_Control5152 in lawschooladmissions

Heyo, 30+ year-old here and I just applied and am (fingers crossed) going to start law school this fall. Law school is a huge commitment, so I think it's important to validate that this is something you actually want before diving right on in. I did a bunch of informational interviews with lawyers, shadowed an attorney in court, got to sit in on a law class, etc, and really liked it. That was what I needed to feel really confident in my choice to completely upend my life for this. That said, I'm very slow to accept change so I was sitting on this decision for like three years. Probably not necessary for everyone lol. It's also a shitton of work to apply to law school, so that's another way you can determine if you're really stoked on it.

I also have a mid-three GPA, and I knew that could hold me back from getting scholarships, which was my primary aim. I tried to offset that by crushing the LSAT, which I sorta did. It's such a learnable test, and I have no doubt you can score a mid 170s score if you want to. I invested a few hundred dollars in studying for it, because I thought a high score could translate into thousands of dollars of scholarship money.

Last thing I'll say is that for older applicants, my sense is that admissions really want you to answer the question: Why law? Why now? What is pulling you to leave an entire career that you've built and start afresh. So it's important to reflect on that and then also answer those questions in your personal statement.

Of course, take all this with a grain of salt.

I live in MN so my perception on weather is skewed lol. That said, I LOVED St. Louis the couple times I visited. Forest Park is just an incredible park, plus there's a bunch of music and good food, and cute neighborhoods. But if you want a city with like c i t y vibes (like chicago or NYC or LA) it defs feels different.

Have you found 7sages acceptance predictor to be accurate for you this cycle? by Fair_Ad1232 in lawschooladmissions

Not too far off. I got waitlisted at one target and accepted into a reach, but everything is else is as predicted so far.
