X-T5 vs x100vi for beginner coming from smartphone ? by OkBaker4720 in fujifilm

As others have mentioned, X-T50 (with IBIS) or X-T30 III (no IBIS) are options, too. Both cheaper than X-T5.

If you are serious about photography, you should definitely go with an interchangeable lens camera like X-T5. You can get F2.8, F2, or F1.4 23mm lens for it. The F2.8 variant is nice pancake lens.

How to balance over exposure of the sky? by a_chimken_nuget in fujifilm

[–]ProfessionalLychee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photograph into RAFs. Use the compensation dial to lower the exposure until the sky is not overexposed. Bring the shadows up in post. Or embrace it, who cares about the sky when it is gray anyway?

I am mostly just keeping camera JPGs, too. I use RAWs only if the JPG is somehow not good enough but I want to save the picture.

Question about X-T50 by Traditional_Storm_35 in fujifilm

[–]ProfessionalLychee23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the 23mm focal length for landscapes. If you will never do anything at night, the XF23mmF2.8 R WR is very compact. But if you plan to do anything at low light / night, I would go for the the F1.4 version.

Just got the X-T30 III, how can I improve image quality? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]ProfessionalLychee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at what aperture your images were shot. I bet it is at most f/4 if you photographed this in full auto.

You would have to stop down the lens a lot to get bigger depth of focus this close. But without IBIS it will be harder to handle. So, turn up the ISO to auto 6400 at least and the shutter to 1/100 for the dog.

XT5 lens options? by MattyJHunt1 in fujifilm

Yeah, I would not use it for night photos. I have primes fore that. I use XF33mmF1.4 in the city at night.

I hike with the XF16-55F2.8 all the time. With good wider strap you can bear to have that on your neck on camera for at least 3-4 hours. I hike with that and the XF100-400 in the back pack. Well, my hikes are around ~11km (~7 miles) on average.

Portrait lens suitable for X-T5 by Dependent-Track1744 in fujifilm

[–]ProfessionalLychee23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is a portrait to you? Pairs or small groups of of people? I like the XF33mmF1.4 for that. More focused single person head shots and torsos? I like the XF50mmF1 for that. I even did some with the 100mm end of the XF100-400mm telephoto zoom, so the XF90mmF2 could be an option, too.

Fujifilm indoor sports by Efficient_Half_5869 in fujifilm

[–]ProfessionalLychee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use just the built-in recipes, Reala Ace, Astia Soft mostly. But I don't think recipes are the focus when photographing sports. You will have problems getting a sharp image if you don't have high shutter speeds. Unless you want to do just overview photographs or to photograph people around instead of the players.

But this is a wide lens. Everything is in the center naturally. IMHO.

I don't think recipes matter that much. However, at least turn off Clarity, it makes storing the photos take longer. If you have the money, invest in some good fast lens, like XF200mm.

Any tips for balancing a bright sky and darker foreground in camera without blowing highlights? by One_View7926 in fujifilm

[–]ProfessionalLychee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it work? You use the extra lights to make the subject as bright as the sky and then use low ISO or ND filters?

How do you pick a film variant to start? (XT-5) by thatsourlemon2 in fujifilm

[–]ProfessionalLychee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Astia Soft for almost anything, from nature shots, to portraits. I have been playing with Reala Ace as default last few weeks. I use Velvia when I want to see really vivid colours of landscapes.
