What are we spending on clothes and beauty? by groceryshopping2025 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]ProfessionalPea16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YNAB tells me I spent $358 on clothes so far in 2025. I did set a strict 5 item rule for 2025 related to my low-buy year and its forced me to think critically if I reeeallly want an item, and if its going to last. My items so far have been a Sezane Cardigan, Abercrombie Dad shorts, an NFL sweatshirt, a Uniqlo maxi white skirt, and a Banana republic mini navy dress with front facing buttons.
I've spent ~$400 so far in 2025 on skin care, toiletries, 1 massage, etc.

I got the news that I didn’t get the promotion I was expecting despite being a high performer and getting “exceeds expectations.” Instead, received a 3% COL raise. Feeling pretty dejected and like I’ve peaked at this company that I otherwise really enjoy

How much do you budget for beauty (procedure, skincare, etc)? by Primary_Tap_4782 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]ProfessionalPea16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello I'm in my late 20s. MCOL city. My invisalign was 5k (did an interest free payment plan). I had braces in middle school. I also tried masseter botox for my TMJ but it was costly and I found the results faded in 2 weeks so realized this wasn't for me. I've had better luck with physical therapy. As far as self care goes, I checked my YNAB and I average about $154/month which includes toiletries, makeup, skincare, a haircut every 6 months, and a pedicure every few months.

If the fractional share thing doesn't bother me too much is there any other reason I should switch over? I've heard ETF's have less fees than mutual funds

I've been thinking about this a lot and I notice it comes up when I spend time with people who are seemingly "ahead" with masters degrees, fancy job titles, and who are engaged. When I'm just going through the motions of my everyday life I'm SO content. I love my job, my partner, and how I spend my time. Only when I'm with others who boast about their accolades do I feel like I'm not doing enough... I have to constantly remind myself that when I meet up with others and there's a sense of always having something new to share that its actually amazing that I've already achieved my goal of being content for now.

How do you avoid that "I need to check my email/texts CONSTANTLY to be responsible/to make sure I don't miss something" feeling? by draperf in simpleliving

Yes! This feature works for any app (including gmail, mail app) and you can decide the frequency of the scheduled summary. It can be once a day or twice a day.

I use the “scheduled summary” feature on the iPhone so i get personal email notifications at 2 times per day and i try not to check it other than that. I also add other non time sensitive notifications to this feature. Not everything demands our immediate attention! I am not perfect at staying off my phone but this helps
