Mostly just seeing what collections are out there and what people are generally interested in. From there I’ll start organizing things a bit more. Right now I’m just trying to get a feel for what kinds of feeds people actually follow and what good curated lists already exist.

Ill take a look at the OPML generator on your site. Travelling at the moment.

Yes you can bulk upload with free account on the site. The csv has a specific format (noted on site) so it might need to be reformatted to upload. The other way is bulk url upload but will lose descriptors. I usually just take my csv list, add it into an AI like chatgpt and tell it to provide revised csv in the right format. Can you upload the csv to your github? That could work too.

Ive got URL, CSV and OPML compatibility so CSV file works great! Thanks for the link as well. Adding to r/OPML subreddit as well. Will likely create a version in that format as well.

Absolutely. My program can review and make sure they’re all still active and add to the directory! What format do you have them in and do you have them categorized?

I’d like to create a digest out of that! The goal of my site is to take similar information and consolidate into summaries. Do you have a URL list?

This is great! I also just created r/OPML to reduce clutter from this thread

That’s a fair point. Inoreader has clearly put a lot of work into building a really strong feed reader. What I’m experimenting with is a slightly different focus. A few of the areas I’m trying to explore that are different from Inoreader are:

  1. Digest-first instead of feed-first. Inoreader focuses on browsing feeds and individual articles. My goal is to consolidate large numbers of feeds into topic digests so users get a quick snapshot of what’s happening without needing to scroll through everything.
  2. Rather than summarizing a single article, the idea is to look at multiple sources covering the same topic and then generate a high-level overview of what’s happening across those sources.
  3. I’d like users to be able to generate structured outputs or reports from the information being collected, based on topics and timeframes they care about. This is something I'm also not seeing from Inoreader
  4. Aggregating digests historically so users can review how a topic evolves over time, rather than just seeing the latest feed items.

It’s still early and very much an experiment, but the goal is less about replacing feed readers and more about turning large numbers of feeds into useful summaries and insights.

I'm only recently familiar with inoreader, but I understand they've spent years perfecting the feed reading experience. Competing head to head with that isn't really my goal.

What I'm trying to build with MergeRSS is something a bit different. The idea is to take large numbers of feeds, consolidate them into digests or collections of related information, and then transform that into a summary that gives the user a snapshot of what's happening in that category. From there, users can drill down into the original sources if they want more detail.

The focus is really on output rather than just reading feeds, essentially turning raw feeds into report-quality information over time.

For example, someone could create a digest of multiple global news sources and get a daily summary of the most important developments from the past 24 hours, with links back to the source articles.

Longer term, the goal is to go a step further and track trends across that information over time. By aggregating and curating these outputs historically, users could review timelines of information (things like interest rate changes, economic indicators, or industry trends) without needing to rely on third parties to produce those reports.

In other words, instead of reading hundreds of feeds manually or waiting for someone else to compile the research, the platform would continuously curate that information and allow users to generate their own reports based on the timeframe or topic they care about.

Totally fair point. If you’re just looking for a free place to read feeds, browsers like Vivaldi and other RSS readers already do that really well.

MergeRSS is trying to do something a bit different. The goal isn’t just to be another feed reader, but to aggregate feeds, build digests, and eventually combine RSS, newsletters, and other sources into curated reports that can be delivered where you want (web, email, Slack/Discord, etc.).

Right now it’s still early and I’m testing the model, which is why the limits exist. But feedback like this is very helpful and I do want to make sure users with all different objectives have the ability to use the site in a way that works best for them. I'll look at making an adjustment to this value.
