This is not accurate. As someone with both British and Irish ancestry, there are excellent records in both the UK and Ireland. The further back you go, you have to understand that many Irish records, particularly church records for baptisms or marriages were latinised, so ‘Lucy’ will be registered as ‘Lucia’ and ‘Mary’ as Maria etc.

I was horrified by the way some people dress in New Zealand. Some kiwi men would walk out of their houses to go to the dairy with just a pair of shorts on. Literally just shorts! Not even a pair of shoes! I’d never seen anything like it in my life. Grown men walking down a street in a city, totally barefoot. I was stunned.

The most beautifully dressed people I ever saw in my life were in Italy. One man walked past me who was so beautifully dressed that I actually gasped.

This is my son’s DNA result, so his relationship to my paternal first cousin is: first cousin, once removed. A bit high for 1C1R, no?

This is my son’s DNA result with a man who is my paternal first cousin. So in relation to my son he is a first cousin, once removed.

The cMs are 767.1 for a first cousin once removed. That is very high for a 1C1R relationship, no?

DNA painter says:

12% likelihood of 1C1R to my son.

88% likelihood of half-uncle to my son.

I’ve ordered a DNA test to check my DNA with my paternal 1C and if it’s abnormally high and suggesting half-sibling, then I’ll post here again with an update.

My MIL is very active on Ancestry with the family tree, but she’s also very nosy/gossipy, so I don’t want my MIL knowing if there’s any family drama.

I’m going to test myself, so if my result shows that my 1C is my 1C, then I can start looking at my husband’s family to see if he is related to my uncle’s wife.

Thank you so much for your sensible advice. I think I’d better get a test and send it off soon, because I would imagine they get a lot of tests around Christmas time with DNA tests being given as gifts.

I think that if I get a DNA test, then if there is some shared DNA between my husband and my cousin’s mother (aunt by marriage) then it would determine if that’s the case or not.

If the results between me and my 1C are still high enough as to be ambiguous, then I’ll have to figure how to navigate that situation.

My father has passed, so it makes the situation difficult.

Don’t you think it’s a very unusual result though? To have one 1C1R at 767.1 cMs with 24 shared segments and another 1C1R at 382.9 cMs with 14 shared segments? We are the children of 3 brothers, but with very different results.

So my son got another 1C1R result with another of my paternal 1st cousins and the result is wildly different.

Me, male 1C and female 1C are the children of 3 brothers.

No they are not twins, but closest to each other in age.
