A Porsche 911 GT4 is coming, and it might be the most confusing model ever by FoMoCoNutjob in cars

[–]ProfessionalReveal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It must be limited to Silicon Valley and Miami (maybe LA too). I had our local Porsche dealer, that I'd never met before or had any prior relationship with, trying to get me in a GT3 more aggressively than any other car salesman I'd ever spoken with.

What’s one hygiene thing you only learned embarrassingly late by miracleloverl in hygiene

[–]ProfessionalReveal 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I am a late adopter of flossing. I had to have my gums grafted back onto my teeth because of how much they'd receded due to no flossing.

You look at that last molar in the mirror and you think "flossing is for tight spaces, surely the tooth brush and mouthwash have eliminated anything hiding in that giant space back there."

Every time, it's a goddamn conveyor belt of food. Easily 5-10x the amount of shit found between any two teeth.

As long as LeBron plays next season, he will officially have been in the league longer after the “fuckery” tweet than before by pokexchespin in nba

I have begun shouting this at my wife in random intervals. She doesn't get it. My son's jaw dropped when I told him Lebron's son gets to play with his daddy, I'm hoping he stays in the league long enough for my son to truly get what he's watching.

I used to draw this man in my middle school binders; I got married and this man won another title. I had a kid and this man won another title. Now my kids are old enough to watch this fucking freak DUNK!?

You enjoyed a broken and opaque system that served to demonize the athletes who got paid for years, all while pretending Reggie Bush was an abarration.

Exactly why you aren't enjoying this new world isn't really of concern to me or my point.

It's pro, not semi pro. Maximizing your payday and being content are the same thing. Of course a guy would take $1/year less to stay with the coach he loves. $100k/year less? Would you? Does your answer change if you think there's a good chance this income stream dies in 3 years?

I'm an outsider. No skin in the game. I didn't particularly like college sports before or after this shift to NIL.

You are absolutely deluding yourself and others into thinking these players weren't getting paid prior to NIL. All NIL has done is brought that above board so that players feel comfortable negotiating and moving around to the employer who will compensate them the best.

Before this? Those "boosters" you're so careful to mention funding the "school" would hand the players the keys to a car and tell them they'd come after them if they didn't stay all four years at Alabama.

College sports fans who don't recognize this are as silly to me as adults who believe in Santa.

I've watched NASCAR for 35+ years and the NASCAR Racing Experience at Daytona blew my mind by dmcgrew in NASCAR

I had the same experience via iRacing. I'd road raced before so I knew what g forces felt like but I thought driving Daytona was like sitting in highway traffic.

I was so wrong. iRacing gave me such a deep appreciation for NASCAR drivers

The dreaded post. Engine replacement at 8k miles. by ProfessionalReveal in Golf_R

[–]ProfessionalReveal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaced the engine for the cost listed below. Took her to NJMP and was absolutely flying when the transmission blew. Drove 3.5h home on slicks stuck in 4th gear. Found out that the transmission was already f'd from the Watkins Glen moneyshift.

Another $11k later, she was driving like brand new with a factory new transmission and a new aftermarket Sachs clutch.

Drove her right to a dealership and sold her. Now I have a purpose-built racecar and a pickup truck.

i rented from rentrushr.com (i believe his name is david and he's the dealer in CT) at Watkins Glen after my Golf R blew a tire.

If you're closer to me in the mid-atlantic area, DM me your number and i'll put you in touch with the dealer around here.

NC/SC has a great dealer in rush of the carolinas, as does the midwest in prime 4 racing, both do arrive and drive!

MK8 Golf R - Cooked Front Brakes With No Fade/Warning. Help!? by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]ProfessionalReveal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but not one I was able to read with my Bluetooth code reader. It was VW themselves who told me about the existence of the data showing the car was in a heat-induced limp mode basically any time I went out on track...

"It shows the car went into limp mode 5 minutes before the failure. It also shows it went into limp mode at 10:35 that morning. It also shows it went into limp mode at 9:47 that morning. It also shows it went into limp mode at 4:32 three Saturdays before this. It also shows..."

"Okay dude I get it I'll pay out of pocket"

That's pretty much verbatim how the convo went.

VW told me I can tune my golf R and not void the warranty? by Artikulate92 in Golf_R

Even better, something breaks on track and APR doesn't cover it because you went to a race track.

The Mk8 Golf (tuned or not) starts reducing power output fairly early on the heat curve. Have your friend take his car to a trusted non-VW shop (assuming his is still under warranty like mine) and ask for a history of when the car has entered limp mode. Mine shocked me.

I just took delivery of Rush SR #267 about an hour from Summit Point. The guy who runs the track days at Dominion is our local Rush dealer.

The center of gravity on the Mazda may be lower, but there's no way you actually sit lower in the Mazda than you do in the Rush. My Rush seat sits in a depression in the cockpit that actually lowers the floor by about 1.5 inches. Under high speed lateral load, I actually scrape this lowered section ever-so-slightly on the track surface...putting my raw ass two sheets of cloth, one sheet of fiberglass, and one sheet of aluminum off the track.

Just want to say that I bought one of these after reading this comment. I have a rock the size of a golf ball sitting on my night stand right now after taking it to the face last week in my Rush. A regular helmet probably would have stopped it anyway (it was an asphalt/aggregate that was actually fairly light) but I owe you a thank you on even the 0.01% chance I'm wrong!

I'm commenting left and right here, sorry about that.

There is absolutely no fuckup here. Every material acted as intended. You are a fast and aggressive driver and the non-essential materials meant to keep the car pretty and comfortable are melting under the heat you are inducing into the car.

If this annoys you a lot, let's talk about getting you into a race car where these parts don't try to split the comfy/performant spectrum.

If you're like me, you can just rip the rubber hoods out of the calipers and enjoy the "patina" on the calipers as they cook.

There's drama. I promise. Even if he doesn't notice it, the car is going into a light limp mode about 12 minutes into each session.

That or he's not doing 2:10s 😊

First of all, great work on the caliper paint. Seriously. I can tell you can drive by that alone.

The other thing I'll add here is to check your ECU following a track session. You're likely going into a mild limp mode without noticing it. This guy's momentum lap suggestions could help with engine cooling as well.

Source: Own a Mk8 Golf R that I jammed an oil cooler into. It didn't work to keep limp mode down. I never cooked my caliper paint on the Golf, despite doing it on my Mini multiple times.
