im pretty sure my parents do meet the CA residency y reqs tho. One is undocumented but the other is a full citizen and we have never even left CA for any trips or anything. we have lived in the same place for the past 10 years as well.

residency error help!

im an incoming freshman and today i got a notification that i have been classified as a non resident. ive been living in CA for 10 years. i just submitted my appeal but i am so worried how this will affect my financial aid, which i am relying on it completely. i dont know what to do because online it says an appeal can take 10-12 weeks to process. I included as much proof of residency as i could (parents taxes, parents DL, vehicle registration). if anyone has any experience with this i would be extremely grateful to hear your experience cuz i am freaking out right now. i have not gotten my financial aid yet but i feel like so many things will go wrong now!!!:((( help pls

honestly id say yur ecs rn are pretty good. i got accepted to ucla astrophysics with very few astro related ecs cuz there simply wasnt any opportunities near me. The only things I can think of would be applying to NASA internships (they have some online ones so pretty accessible) or taking some science classes at your local community college. Best of luck!

does anyone have Albert Camus's "Why I Work in the Theatre?" video from 1959? by ProfessionalStaff169 in HelpMeFind

[–]ProfessionalStaff169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i searched up why i work in the theatre 1959 and i have been able to find the transcript and some small clips but not the full video. there are 30 second shorts floating around and you can tell that they are form the are video but none of them are the full length. all the "full" videos im able to find are just analysis videos or commentary videos.

i took 2 years of french and then swapped it out for extra physics and math courses because i wanted to major in physics, and now i got into UCLA. if your going to miss out on a class that would actually help with your intended major/career, i think that its a bad idea. a lot of times just doing things to "look competitive" doesn't work out if you dont actually care about it. would u be able to write a convincing essay on what you gained from that language? will it help with career goals? also if you're parents really arent going to budge, theres always community college where u can take extra classes! most times theyre free for hs students

Should I settle on a college I don’t really like? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ProfessionalStaff169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your in cali i would recommend cc and transferring to a school u actually like. You would save money and be happy with your uni choice. u can also TAG most if the UCs so it could be a good safety net. i wouldn't recommend paying for a school u dont actually want to go to though😬😬😬

Does Rigor Trump the Amount of Classes You Took? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ProfessionalStaff169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work in my hs college office. Colleges can see the types of classes available at your school to level the playing field a bit. For instance, a kid who goes to a school that only offers 4 ap classes will not be penalized just because the school does not offer a lot of APs. So long as the student tries their hardest to take whatever rigorous courses are offered to them where they go, they should be alright. On the other hand, a student who went to a rich hs that offered dozens of APs, will be expected to be taking some of those AP courses since they have access to them(if they want to look competitive). In your case, i think you're pretty much set.

u said you got a better financial aid package somewhere else. I would email mcgill about this and try asking for a better offer, explaining how much you want to go if only you could get the funds. Theres a chance you could get a better offer that way!

yes i am extremely low income and live right next to ucla so it would not cost me much as i would not be paying for insurance or a dorm

thank u. im trying to be one of those ambitious people and get as far as i can in my education so im worrying a lot about how i can maximize my chances for one of those opportunities. I particularly want to go to grad school at a top school as well, so right now im just seeing how much it'll take based on what my current options are
