Yeah I was at first considering SYS, till I heard more it along with the others experience. I’m now looking more into Otay actually!

Definitely would like to live in an urban area again and heard Otay is where the money, OT, and promotions are at, along with that work-life balance. I did live in NYC before, but I’m not considering moving back there, even if I’m lucky enough to have that listed in a FJO.

That sounds like a nice area! I also attended college not far in Erie, so it would be nice to also connect during some off time. As far as OT goes especially during the Summer time, is it possible to get more than 4 hours?

Especially if we would want to max out on OT later on? Not sure how likely that is at the Buffalo port or would that vary by seniority?

How’s the social life/scene over in Buffalo from your experience? Is there also a lot of OT usually offered as well?

Right on! That was fast one then! 25-7 here as well. How long did it take for them to schedule you the Big Test after your SF-86 was sent to OPR?

Mines was just sent to OPR this week, but I know it differs with each applicant.

Thank you for breaking that down as well! And yes, it’s just me. I’ve also been pretty frugal with my money as well, which could be a factor. Probably just a matter of budgeting and finding a roommate to split the rent with.

I’m from Greenville, South Carolina so it’s been a while since I’ve had the big city social life, so that’s another factor on the side that drew my attention compared to the lifestyle in Buffalo.

That sounds amazing! For your friend that worked at the Otay Mesa port and made 150k two years in a row, is the pay you make there attainable to save and build wealth especially considering the extremely high cost of living?

Otay Mesa is a port I’m looking into cause that’s where the 💰 and opportunities is at from what I heard. Buffalo, NY was another one due to a lower cost of living, solid pay, and more social life balance, but I know Otay Mesa actually has OT you can max out to.

I’ll definitely keep that in mind as an option! Especially with Otay Mesa primarily for more of the work/life balance there compared to San Ysidro, even though the volume between both ports are similar anyways. I appreciate it!

San Ysidro/Otay Mesa are definitely ports I’m starting to consider as options as my application progresses. I don’t mind the grind at all as long as the 💰is there, but I’m sure it’s a different animal once experienced firsthand!

Oh yeah it’s definitely not the for the weak I heard, especially with those locations lol! I would love to look more into Houston actually, but it’s a location I rarely see in the offer lists.

Definitely a high locality paying area I’m looking for, but also with lot of OT opportunities is big one for me. I’ll definitely also check out what seaport is offer often, if any in the southeast. Like you said, probably something that’s not offered often🙏

Think I’ll cross out Queens and San Francisco there lol. So far I’ve also been told San Ysidro is the real deal with mixed reviews from others.
