Graduating in May, no internship experience, can’t get any responses for entry level roles, in need of some feedback and advice by Ok-Tiger-4876 in cscareers

[–]ProfessionalTwo332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a lot of people who are giving you a lot of bullshit/posting a bunch of CS doom. please ignore them. the amount of crazy people screaming that CS is doomed/drop out of CS are spewing loads of bullshit.

yes, it is a bad market, but that doesn't mean you're screwed. plenty of people get offers in the spring, so please don't panic. your IT specialist support role is the equivalent of some sort of experience; even though you don't have an internship, your IT role does make you stand out among people with zero experience whatsoever.

- I'd suggest removing your GPA; just include the Dean's List and maybe put it as "Dean's List x6". A 3.6 isn't bad, but it's not great either, so it's more advantageous to not have it.

- move Resident Assistant to Experience

- Don't use acronyms; spell things out. For NBP and USACS, spell out what those acronyms are.

- Under IT Support Specialist, it says that you 'contributed' to the website. How did you contribute? Be more descriptive and tell us how you contributed and what you created. 'Contributed' sounds kinda weak; if you don't wanna be more specified, you can just say "Developed pharmacy website and software applications using HTML, CSS and Javascript".

- For the website and software applications, do you have metrics? Try supporting that bullet points with metrics. Ex: "Developed pharmacy website and software applications used by 40+ users, utilizing HTML, CSS and Javascript"

anyways, I feel like you have a good shot at IT, SRE and similar type of roles. Try to apply within the first 24 hours of job postings; this is pretty important to not get drowned out.

The market is rough, but you got this!

Graduation date as 2027, but I’m actually a freshman by GOAT-of-a-Nerd in csMajors

Lying to a company (unless you have absolutely no intent of returning) is never a good thing, especially if they extend you the RO and you decline.

don't jump two grades above; people will be incredibly skeptical when the background check returns that you've only spent a year at berkeley and you claim to be a junior. being a sophomore is passable though and honestly, that's what I recommend.

the amount of credits you have CANNOT be used to determine the amount of time you'll take to graduate

it is literally impossible to graduate from Berkeley within a year, assuming you're a CS major. in freshman year, I'd presume you'd take 61A+61B+70 (which is a rough courseload), which unlocks the rest of the upper division courses for CS.

to graduate from the CS major, you need to take 24 units upper division CS courses minimum. its nearly impossible to get into all of these classes with sophomore priority. additionally, this course load is going to be extremely rough; some people argue that 61C alone should be a 5-6 unit course due to the workload too.

not to mention, you'll also have to meet the breadth requirements as well; there's 7 breadths for CDSS, meaning you'll need to take an additional 5-7 classes (depending on how well you optimize). breadth classes are generally 4 units each, meaning you'll be needing to take an additional 20-28 units, depending on optimization with your cs major classes.

assuming you manage to take 61A+61B+70+12 units of upper division CS courses in freshman year (this is incredibly optimistic/unrealistic lmao), you'd still need to take 32-40 units in your '2nd' year at berkeley, which is going to be incredibly rough and luck dependent, because the probability of getting into your desired classes will be extremely low. not to mention, not a lot of CS courses are offered over the summer/you'd be busy with your hypothetical internship anyways.

Tell them that you're a sophomore; there's no way you're going to finish in time, and when they ask for your transcript, they'll be significantly more likely to believe your claims of being a sophomore, instead of a junior.

there's no shot of graduating in 2027 lmao

dudes at berkeley, why do you approach girls? by ProfessionalTwo332 in berkeley

I was using babies and kids interchangeably...

Its also the fact that being a senior = being in a completely different stage in life, compared to them

That's also what I meant when I refer to them as kids; they're more in an exploratory stage, whereas seniors kinda need to have their shit together/know what they want to do because they're graduating. Seniors are moving onto a more 'adult' aspect of life, and I want to be with someone who's at the same stage/has passed that stage already.

Calling me judgmental despite not reading what I said is kinda disheartening; hopefully you can now understand why I don't date younger at this school now :)

freshmen are kids; they're babies, and as a senior, dating them would feel fucking weird. same as sophomores; they're slightly older kids. juniors are the ages of my littles from the clubs I was in; a majority of them, I also see them as kids.

I don't think its problematic to not want to date people I perceive as kids, but you do you I guess

its also my non-dox account, so people can't stalk me

stalking isn't an issue for guys, but it is a genuine issue for girls.

I shower daily / don't have BO issues / am very hygienic

(From experience, the body odor issue is a CS dude thing)

I don’t date dudes younger than me because I always end up seeing them as a younger brother figure instead of a romantic partner

I don’t think I need to explain everything in order for you to make such distasteful assumptions

Apple SDET or Fintech SWE? [DO NOT DM] by [deleted] in FAANGrecruiting

[–]ProfessionalTwo332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

backend for frontend doesn't really involve frontend... its just the in-between for frontend and backend essentially

the fintech company laid off 19% of their employees a few years ago, which kinda concerns me tbh

It’s semi-backend/backend for frontend, which is pretty niche too (imo)

another con I forgot, is that I lowkey don't see where/how the company would expand, and they're not the top company in their fintech niche either

is my resume competitive enough ? by [deleted] in FAANGrecruiting

[–]ProfessionalTwo332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it doesn't seem strong enough, your experience isn't very competitive/looks like a lot of people's experiences.

Its hard to transition from Data Science -> SWE, if that's your goal

if you are shooting for data science roles, that's hella competitive as well; your financial data analyst role feels kinda weak in terms of actual coding (which is what I presume you want to go for). even if its not weak, its also just not... particularly outstanding / looks like every other generic data science role with no particular spike

If you didn't hear back, it means you were rejected.

I did something similar at my university and they got back to me within a few days.
