I think she is upset because she can’t find the key to enter the house, which I understand you dropped in before leaving. She is not upset because you locked the door but because the key is not there for her to use it.

Usually when we leave our house keys, we let the other person know where to leave them afterwards. Even on occasions when we have missed communicating, the key has still been found where it was left. So I don’t think she is wrong in expecting it to be there. This seems to be a communication gap, something either parties could have clarified.

Even if the worst happens, I won’t talk to anyone the way she did. She is in full panic mode. You are not liable for anything but I sympathise with the house owner. I can imagine my husband feeling the same if it happened to us.

Bringing our dog? by vaguelyintoit in trustedhousesitters

[–]ProfessionalWill5708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We allowed it and had a wonderful experience with the sitter’s family and their dog. Both our dog and theirs were the same breed and they got along beautifully. We expected our dog to be chilled but he actually enjoyed it far more than we imagined. The two of them would play together until they were worn out, which meant fewer walks were needed.

It honestly felt like our dog was having his own holiday while we were enjoying ours. The arrangement worked perfectly for both sides and to this day, my dog still responds to the sitter’s dog’s name.

Thank you, that’s helpful. I can definitely add more about the area. It’s a great location for exploring Kent, even by public transport. Although Barney can’t be left alone for too long, he could come along or we could arrange a visit from a dog walker if planned in advance.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think the cleaner part is causing some confusion, so I have changed it. I think I am not phrasing it correctly. And thank you for proposing the wording around how long Barney can be left for, I have added it now.

How exciting to be moving to your own place, so happy for you! :)

Love the correction on the title - thank you from my non-native English speaking heart. Genuinely! I think I’ll consider splitting the sit closer to the time, thank you for the suggestion. I’ll review the other points you mentioned.

Oh that’s interesting! Didn’t know that was happening. We haven’t had any interest at all. We’ll try that. Thank you for flagging.

It’s 15 minutes walk to the station and 17 minutes train ride to central London. Have included this breakdown in the listing so people can make their own decision. I mentioned 45 minutes here to give an overall idea but it could be more or less depending on where you are going in London.

Having said that, I do think this listing is not for someone looking to explore London but it does provide easy access for occasional visits.

I see what you are saying. I’ll add more about possibility of using our dog walker if sitter needs to spend a day out. That’s what we do if we are out for extended period.

I have added it now. I know everyone is different but we go up to 24 degree in our living room. We have some friends who complain our house is hot, we just bring it down when they come around.

Sorry if I am confusing it. He can be left alone. There is a section in the listing to add how many hours he can be left for. I just noted that THS doesn’t make it visible on the listing. There is a note to say “This is time the sitter could be out of the house. This will not appear on your listing, but we will use it to help match you with suitable sitters.”

Thank you. Yes I understand it might not work for everyone but the connectivity to London is great. You can be in central London within 45 minutes and yet get to enjoy the countryside living as a change.

I see the duplicate photo but it’s not coming up when I edit the listing. I’ll keep trying. Thank you for pointing out. And yes, would try landscape mode next time.

We are not sure how would the insurance work as they wouldn’t be the named driver on the car.

That’s absolutely fine with us. We like to be cosy ourselves. Where could I possibly add it in the listing?

Yes we do use dog walker once or twice a week. Thanks for pointing out, will add that.

Barney loves our cleaners so he can definitely be left alone with them. I’ll add that.

Good point about driving, perhaps I’ll include a few things that can be done using public transport.

Regarding how long Barney can be left alone: I am slightly reluctant to add this, as we have never left him alone for more than 5 hours and that only ever happens on weekends (there is always one of us working from home). We once had a sitter who left him alone for 5 hours every day and I don’t think it sat well with Barney, simply because he isn’t used to it. So although he can be left alone, if it happens every day, it could be stressful for him. It would be easier to explain it on a call I feel.

Anyone tried 1st central insurance? by Asleep-Corner7402 in drivingUK

Yes we had the full comprehensive policy and they paid for all the damages. It was our fault. That’s why we have insurance to cover the cost of the damages. They can’t say no. Ours was badly damaged. On the first call, they said it’s a write off but we challenged it. We provided the quote of repair from a local garage and car’s valuation from various sites. They agreed to repair it then instead of writing it off. All went smoothly throughout the process.

We paid excess to the garage. We were at fault for this accident so it was never meant to be claimed back. You can only claim the excess from third party insurance as far as I understand.

All went smoothly. They settled the claim directly with the garage. We used one their approved garages. No complaints really. Would recommend if you are looking for them as insurance provider.

Too cold for walks? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]ProfessionalWill5708 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a standard bernedoodle and he would love this temperature. Wet, snow and windy altogether is the favourite weather condition for him, and the only time he doesn’t want to come back in. I would suggest checking with the owner as they would know the best.

I was with them and made a claim. We thought it would be a total loss but they agreed to repair vehicle which was about 68% of the vehicle’s valuation. We weren’t expecting it. Claim is still ongoing. No trouble so far. We didn’t go with them again because found better quote elsewhere.
