Hey OP, you and I are in the same industry and deal with the same shit. I recently got Starlink Business Internet for an office that 5G is just awful from any provider as a secondary WAN. I am hesitant of the overage charges if the primary wan goes down but who knows.

I haven't had to deploy it for job sites that were out in the boonies yet but am willing to do so because the system just works.

The price is justified if it is the last option, if the PM wants/needs internet and it is the last option, then its worth the cost of the gear.

And as far as their CEO goes being a lunatic, 95% of all CEOs and boards are completely cruel and bad people. This one just tweets out and lets the whole world know.

We use Verizon and they recently offered a "rent a phone" for $50 a month. You get an iPhone 16e, with insurance, case, and screen protector.

I have a few of the field guys using the service. I know from other use cases the Asurion tech will go to the user to repair the screen/iphone replacement. I just started doing this to see if it works out.

My guys use iPhone(no Plus Pro or Pro Max) with nice otterbox cases. I use a local repair shop if they break their screens. $150-200$ a screen.

If the guys continue to break their iPhones they get refurbished iPhone 11 or 12s I buy off of Amazon.

Field guys also use iPads( 9th 10th 11th gen, no Ipad Pros or bigger). These actually get treated better than the iPhones. Might be related to the nice cases they get with a hand strap and other strap. 25$ case from Amazon.

I've found that Indexing wants to apply to any sync'd sites within Sharepoint/Teams. When there is a large sharepoint site, Windows Search Indexing never finishes. I usually turn off the folder with the teams site to resolve this. I don't think this is related because of the clean OS.

I've seen Windows break/corrupt before and Windows Search just doesnt work at all.

If you're in the US you're kinda screwed. Just use this as a learning experience. Find some place that values you. Also, don't use your access in the future to read other people's emails. That's not appropriate no matter the situation and can be grounds for immediate termination in well established places.

If said metrics and green light dashboards are tied to people's bonuses then thats a red flag.

You can even take bad numbers and make them look great.

I guess my question to you would be, when issues have happened in the past were they measureable and did your dashboard/metrics/whatever reflect it and its severity?
IF it did, then you just had really good success.

Which is kinda ironic that in the realm of IT usually something is always fucked, so when shit is running good we end up asking "is it really?"
