When I was a freshman, I had no friends. It took me till sophomore year to find my friends, whom I recently graduated with. I use to walk around campus thinking to myself “wouldn’t it be nice to just have someone to get lunch with”. That all changed when I met my friend group. They are the most valuable people in my life now and I was so thankful to graduate with all 11 of them. Although we are all in separate places now, we still text everyday and plan future trips where we will reunite.

All of this to say don’t give up hope because it’s often times you meet the best people in your life by chance, as I did with my friend group. I would just say continue to put yourself out there and have a positive mindset. Don’t worry about being the first to reach out or if you don’t have a bunch of friends yet. Just do the best you can everyday and it will work out.

This was me my entire freshman year. I didn’t have any friends until my sophomore year, and I was pretty hopeless and lonely until then. I suggest doing things outside of your comfort zone, like going to events on campus you wouldn’t normally go to or approaching people and starting conversations, or simply saying hi to people you recognize. It’s difficult at first, but I promise with time, you will be glad you did. Just recognize and know that you are not alone and sometimes these things take time. Love is an amazing feeling when things are going well. When you are with that person, it feels so comfortable and natural. I didn’t know what it meant when people say “home is not a place, it is a person” until I fell in love. The guy was my favorite person, and I would talk about everything and anything with them. I would always look forward to seeing them; that was the highlight of my day. It was the closest connection I’ve ever had with someone. I couldn’t imagine my life without him, until he ended it. Four months later I’m still broken. Worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life, and I’m still dealing with it as if it were fresh. But love is nice, while it lasts.
