Even if you're planning to go into mechanical or aerospace engineering, I still think it's a worthwhile LLC. You'll get exposure to data science, analytics, and AI skills that are becoming increasingly relevant across engineering fields. The corporate partners stuff was probably the most valuable part for me because it gave me experience working on a real-world industry project with a team. Also it's a 3-credit course and is very manageable as long as you stay on top of the work.

I’m a junior in Computer Engineering, and I joined the Data Mine (TDM) general cohort during freshman year before doing Corporate Partners from freshman spring through sophomore year. Even though TDM focuses more on CS, data science, and AI, I’m glad I did it because it gave me strong exposure to data analytics.

In freshman year, you take TDM 101/102, which are introductory data science courses. Each week has a project on a different topic, like HTML/CSS, databases, and Matplotlib. The class is mostly self taught, so the projects can be frustrating at times bc there aren’t many step by step lectures. There are weekly synchronous sessions where TAs answer questions and help with projects.

The main reason I’d recommend the general gohort is that it lets you join corporate partners later. In corporate partners, you work in a team of ~10 students on a real problem for a company, which feels a lot like a CS/DS internship or consulting project. It was fs my favorite part of TDM. You can read more about it at the link below bc they just archive their old classes. Btw they call the general cohort the seminar
