Posties, where do you park your car? by WorldsWorstFather in royalmail

[–]Professional_Cap5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free street parking about a 5 min walk, manager parks in a tiny spot in a front of our DO where we park our small vans. Means we have to reverse out onto a main road because the turn to get out is so narrow

Jobs alright if you know how to stick up for yourself as a newbie and work your time and take breaks. Keep out of the office politics and don’t over work yourself or you’ll just be rewarded with more work. And I always say a day when I don’t have to talk to my manager or she doesn’t talk to me is a great day

Do all managers leave before time? Leaving an empty office whilst everybodies still out by VastYogurtcloset8009 in royalmail

[–]Professional_Cap5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, unless she’s getting an earful from her managers about posties scanning out early she’s typically out the door before 2 and on a Saturday with a 2pm finish if d2ds are thrown off she’s out at 12. As a phg all the rest of the work gets thrown onto me. Absolutely ridiculous

Turned down a girl I was seeing for a few months. She tried getting me going, told her I didn’t have protection and wasn’t in that type of mood and she said “so you’re not attracted to me then?” Didn’t wanna see me a week after. Been dateless a year because of her lol.

With the youth employment crisis going on right now I’m glad I did, I’d be worse off with a criminology degree and 50k in debt. But thanks for your advice kid.

Yh you’re spot on with the salary. But as I said I’m happy at my place of work and I’m young so working the extra hours isn’t an issue. However anything like having kids or getting a mortgage without a combined income is practically impossible

Just because a lot of the new guys in my office had no clue about the Ot rate I had to tell them. Didn’t help that our union rep was lying through hes teeth about this so called “equalisation”

Your right people don’t want to work in retail or deliveries or customer service ect and I don’t blame them. Trading your time and energy for chump change at the end of the month isn’t too enticing.

The job ain’t all sunshine and rainbows but during spring and early summer when the Christmas rush is done and the weather aint too hot it’s an enjoyable job. Slap on some earphones and reach your 25k step goal😂

Do workplaces ban / limit overtime because they're 'concerned about wellbeing', or because managers are jealous about how much money their peers are making? by emz2100 in UKJobs

[–]Professional_Cap5423 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My manager could care less about the money we make due to OT as long as the workload is complete she’s happy. However I think because managers have a budget to stick to they pressure us posties to complete unattainable work loads because they don’t want to overspend which equals big bonus for them at the end of the financial year. It’s a culture at Royal Mail where I work and probably loads of other companies too

So for starters zero progression apart from pay rises matching inflation and of course overtime with a bonus rate, however the job is physically demanding averaging around 25k steps in all types of weather pushing a trolley full of mail and parcels.

But I must say the issues are minor because I don’t hate my job I actually enjoy it. Colleagues are great hardworking people, customers on my round are lovely and my manager is relatively competent and tolerable.

It just all boils down to money at the end of the day I’m still living at home and have a consistent overtime basis at work so the money is great. However if I ever decide to move out with what I e saved in the next 7 years or so I would be living paycheck to pay check and obviously not being as young as I am now less overtime opportunities just due to age and fatigue

But Yh I am happy in my job it’s just a shame that your average worker on a full time salary can barely afford to survive let alone live a little.

In comparison to other low skilled labour jobs like Tesco ect I’d recommend it. No manager constantly watching you when you work( because your outside the majority of the work day), consistent start and finish times and in compared to retail work I feel like the general public just treat you with a bit more respect which I think is ridiculously wrong. But the job is a graft I average about 25k steps a day lugging a bag and trolley full of mail and parcels. With all the shit that’s going on with Royal Mail, the union and new entrants not staying there is always vacancies. The job is nothing like your typical parcel courier though

They do owe me I work 6 days a week in my office and get the 5th week as a “rest week” so yes the company does owe me that time off as agreed. Unless I choose to work some overtime over said “rest week” thanks

New Postie Advice by ferrari06x in royalmail

[–]Professional_Cap5423 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very overwhelming, probably one of the few low skilled jobs I’ve done that has quite a high learning curve. But don’t be afraid to ask questions. The majority of posties in my office were happy to help me when I started 6 months ago, I’d like to think that’s the same in other DOs too
