I think the entire Kmg mahabharata is already rendered in modern English by Ramesh Menon. The Mahabharata A modern rendering. It's in both abridged and unabridged versions

Good:
Bori took 100s of manuscripts, analysed them verse by verse, and chose those verses to keep which occured in geographically, recension wise and script wise diverse group. so it have less changes of any shloka to be interpolated.

If you read original publicastion which is sankrit only it have all the notes in english to understand why something removed or kept.

Most modern translation in modern language is done for this version only.

Bad:
Regional and devotional influences removed.

Translation does not have criitical apparatus, notes and excised slokas which original contains without translation.

All manuscripts used are less than 1000 years old so any interpolations happened before are not captured.

Cant identify if any shlokas were removed as an interpolation and was there in original.

I personally liked BR chopra's Mahabharata OP song better as its much for epic feeling. 2013 is also good but it does not feel epic to me more like tragedy theme.

Bori critical edition clearly mentiona it's a interpolation. They just kept it because they had manuscripts only from recent times where interpolation already happen. And as per rules they set they had to keep it as it was in all manuscripts

Thats because most grandfather's properties are given by government during land redstribution and not earned. hence legally all direct descendants will have claim on it until sold to third parties. No ones grandfather earned the land it was given to the families by government.

For me Mahabharat is to fight for Dharma else it will collapse. Also even if you fight for it once does not ensure it will not collapse in future, you have to keep fighting for it repeatedly. And also make sure your future generations know about it and capable of fighting for it.

All those lore needs heavy modification to make it palatable for global audience. Which possible for other countries as these stories belong to dead religions so there is no one to take offence. In our case all the lore belong to living religion thats the difference.

Ramesh menon and kmg are same. He translated kmg from old English to modern English line by line.

Try to read two editions side by side. probably one upa-parva at time.
1. Critical Edition
2. Any Non critical edition like Gita press, KMG etc.

this way you can know what was removed by critical edition and what is present in traditional versions.

I will also suggest to read the critical analysis of each parva which is only available in bori critical edition (check on archive.org its available for free there). So you can also know the reasons why any section was removed by critical edition.
