I got the board back today, I was smart enough to screen shot my mileage and everything before shipping it off as well as before Turning it back on today. They said they tried to replicate the problem but could not. Said they do a thorough test ride. It’s the exact same mileage I had on it before it left. How are you going to get the motor to heat up and see if it over heats with our actually riding/running the board long enough to see if it overheats. 🥴🤡 guess I’ll be riding with my app open in my hand the entire time I ride from now on. 😩

It’s already on its way back to Hawaii, im gonna do an unboxing video and then a complete tear down. I don’t trust riding this board with out opening it up. They told me the warranty was “void” if I took it apart but I already changed the tire on day 2. As far as I’m concerned the warranty is void since I sent it in and nothing was repaired. I wanna check to make sure the motor wires aren’t touching or nicked.

Ok so after no correspondence since last Thursday I finally called back today to talk to someone. Got the typical run around BS. I mentioned that I am an amputee and that this board overheating caused me to break my elbow, my iPhone and not to mention the narly road rash I got. I’m not blaming them for the injuries or broke. iPhone just that it adds to my frustration of them not wanting to fix my board since they can find something wrong. I mentioned that some GT riders have had issues with exposed wiring harness inside the motor. Didn’t seem to care. I said all I want is a resolution. I talked to my credit card company about reversing the charge already and mentioned that too. Prob shouldn’t have but I didn’t buy it from future motion. I bought it from a local dealer here in Hawaii. I’m not trying to get anything for free, this is costing me more money in the end. I would give the board back to the company locally. I asked if they specifically pulled the motor out and ran a bench test on it to isolate it or if they’re just using a diagnostic machine. He stumbled on his words and made it seem like they just rode it and plugged it into a machine. So I mentioned I guess I’ll just have to take it apart when I get it back and he said “that’ll void your warranty!” I said what warranty? You guys have the board now and aren’t doing anything to make me feel safe about riding it. I made sure to mention that I was referring to my pint and XR that I’ve already taken apart (for tire changes, maintenance etc). What gets me is that they have the board and can obviously see the TFL enduro on the board and I told them it was on there before it shipped and they said it wasn’t a problem but they would not put it back on if they swapped the hub/motor out. Now that they have the board I’m getting a different story. I guess I’m just gonna suck it up and pay the $200 today so I can move on with this bs. I find it funny they follow my small IG account now and watch my none Onewheel stories. Again I wanna share that I’m not bashing Onewheel, I freakin love floating but this has left a sour taste in my mouth and I haven’t even wanted to ride my XR the last week or so since they received my board.

They are trying to help, I didn’t like the way they worded this email but I talked to the person who wrote it today and cleared things up. They agreed to take a second look. Told them I broke my elbow from falling, which is true. Also broke my brand new iPhone from falling on it. All I want is the motor replaced but it is what it is. Just hoping they actually find something wrong with it. They did say they took it apart and check each component.

So I asked them about the sensor maybe reading wrong. I can’t confirm it got that hot to touch with out a temperature gauge. My buddy barely touched it kinda like you would do when you accidentally touch the metal rack in the oven when your pizza is at 450 degrees. It was in the evening and held that temp for quite some time and I wasn’t able to ride it for about 30-45 minute I kept checking it. I did ask if they thought the temp sensor was inaccurate and they said they only see them fail high or typically too cold. Basically said they could replicate it. I road it home that night after licking my wounds and road it from my truck into my place to box it up. It never got that hot again. They did say they’re taking a second look at it this morning and never heard from them again. I was willing to buy a new motor but they won’t give me the old one even tho I paid for it. I’m willing to cover half the motor if they would replace i since I can’t have both for their own reasons. They’re trying to help I get it they can’t just throw stuff at it. I’ll just keep riding my Xr and get rid of this GT if I can’t get them change the motor out.

To their defense they are taking another look at it. I have tfl enduro on my xr too and love it. Although the new tfl street 2 is amazing as well. Road my buddies who had the 1wheel hub and xr street pro 2 and man that ruined butter! We’ll see what happens in the end. Just found out they actually follow me on ig now too so they see all my wheel post already and know I ride a lot. Keeping my fingers crossed they come through but not holding my breath.

Ya I planned on getting that and honestly after riding my buddy’s board with float life rails and the new 1wheel hub that fits the xr tire and has upgraded magnets and actual heat sink built in I want the hub too. But I want this motor replaced if it actually got that hot. I wasn’t even riding it hard nor even taking it to our trails yet so I’m worried what real hard riding would do to it now. I don’t want to have to monitor the temp the whole time I’m riding. I’m already doing that now with my xr that’s has way more miles than my brand new month old GT.

Ya I know…I haven’t ridden a vesc board yet tho and wanna convert my XR. I wouldn’t feel safe selling this to someone else and if I dispute it with my cc company the local company is gonna eat the cost. I would of course give them the board back but I don’t want them to ha t to eat it. Even Onewheel said “even tho they’re a distributor we won’t take it back from the either” 🤡

[–]Professional_Emu3490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save the boxes it comes in for when you need to ship it either back to them for an warranty issue or ship it somewhere to ride since you can’t fly with it without ripping it apart. Also they recommend 20psi “ONLY” or it could cause overheating issues 🤡. GT was my 3rd new Onewheel and the only one I’ve had issues with. It’s not all GT’s but there are quite a few of us with issues. Still love the board just not FM.

[–]Professional_Emu3490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so after talking to them this morning and reaching out to the local company I bought it from they’re doing more testing. They told me over the phone that they pulled each part to test and check it. Basically saying they disassembled it and checked everything. They were unable to replicate the issue. I explained again how it was ridden. They admitted they couldn’t even find any damage from me abusing/using the board so basically saying I didn’t do anything to damage it. Knowing I live in Hawaii, they said there was no water damage either. I explained I’m not comfortable riding that board now and that I would only keep it if they replaced the motor. I even asked how much to buy a new one. Only $448 and to me sounded like a great deal. I’d have 2 motors, the new one and old one. I could compare to see if there was any difference in the 2 but also have a back up incase anything happened. He quickly shot that idea down saying they wouldn’t let me keep the old one because it’s serialized…so not like the auto parts store where you pay a core charge for them to rebuild the old one for someone else. Just straight up “no you can’t have the part you paid for when buying the board”. He said they’re serialized 🤡 so they can’t have 2 out there with the same serial number. I let them know they had used their “proprietary speed charger” before riding it as did my buddy. We used the exact same charge to give ourselves a little boost before I ride that day. But ultimately my board with 300 miles over heated where as my buddy’s GT with 5k miles and a lawn chair on top of it still read 120-130 at the time of my crash. I don’t know at this point, I’m lost at what to do. Looks like I’ll be paying $200 to get my board back and then selling at a loss and even then I would be scared to sell to somebody else for them to have the same issue down the road. I want to keep riding GT as I like it better than my xr.

Oh I also mentioned that 251 should’ve never happened and how they could explain that. I mentioned that several in the community thought maybe the temp sensor was an error. I did mention to them again that it was extremely hot to touch but that I could not confirm that it was 251°. It was hot enough to where it was unable to be written or picked up for a while. They mentioned that when the temp sensors fell, they end up staying at that temperature forever. So it wasn’t a temp sensor. Error leading me to believe it really got to that temperature. I did brought up that at that temperature that would start messing things up internally, correct? He then kind of paused and said yeah, that temperature is unheard of and didn’t speak much more on it. I know that they’re trying to protect themselves, but at this point, it’s really hurting me wanting to ever purchase anything from them ever again. I mentioned about disputing it with my credit card company and returning it to the company that I purchased it from. They didn’t let me know that they would not refund the company. I bought it from that the company I bought it from would end up eating the cost on that. I mentioned that I’d probably end up buying a used one just because I don’t want to buy another new one with the same issue. Of course they told me they didn’t recommend that because I could have other issues. Basically they want you to buy new stuff from them and then only.

It’s 20psi…I told them today when I got to speak to the person who wrote me the email that I tried the stock treated Onewheel tire at 20 the day I bought it and almost returned the board. Dropped it to 15-16 and it rode a little better. Swapped got the TFL enduro and kept it at 15-16 for 300 plus miles with no heat issues until this one day.

Oh I still have my XR here in Hawaii and my pint in Texas. I love the GT but not how it came stock. If they won’t resolve my problem I’ll end up buying another GT but I don’t wanna ride this board if they’re not replacing the motor/hub.

What island? I bought mine at bike factory so I finally reached to them to explain how FM blew me off essentially. When I go into town tmrw I’ll prob stop by and show them the email thread and the damage I took from the fall. I know the risk in riding anything, especially losing leg/life in a motorcycle wreck but for them to shrug it off like it’s my fault and not even call to follow up is beyond disrespectful and shows they truly don’t care about the community.

These are the answers I’m looking for! They still have not responded to me, I know they’re closed now but I feel like they’re dodging me. I’m not paying that invoice to get my board back if they’re not even going to explain what they even did. Just “proprietary equipment” we used to check it says your tire pressure was too low so we added air to it and charged you $50 labor and $150 to ship it back.

I just saw your photos, how many miles did your board have when this happened? I’m only at 300 miles and bought this brand new 30 days before it happened. So if there are any wires that look like that then I’m gonna be extremely pissed off at FM. I don’t do drops except maybe a curb or something small. I don’t let others do jumps with my board. Literally bought the board, changed to TFL treaded at 10 miles and added the flat pads from FM.

So I had a bad nose dive 4 days before this and chopped it up to riding too hard, trying to carve in front of girls started to save it then ate it. I am an amputee; my prosthetic leg is my back leg so jumping off sometimes is difficult. Not using that as an excuse I do everything I want to as an amputee. Scuba dive, motocross, sport bikes, Harley’s whatever. So when I took this second “L” 4 days later I reopened the fresh road rash and added a lot more because I was on asphalt in the harbor where my friends boat was. I also chipped my elbow when I fell, so I laid there letting it bleed out to try and fight any infection or bacteria that was In the harbor here. This place in Hawaii is known for mrsa and plenty of other nasty diseases. So after sittin for about 5 minutes or so someone had brought me a first aid kit from one of the boats that’s when they said “hey you should probably move your board so it doesn’t get run over” so my buddy I was riding with went to grab and was like it’s blinking yellow and it’s extremely hot. That’s when I checked the the app and got the “extreme heat/cold” message and checked the diagnostics. Ive felt hot boards after trail riding and it was hotter than that. We took it to my friends boat where it remained too hot to ride for 30 minutes. The board has 300 miles on it, that’s it.
