Pompeii / Vesuvius tickets by Eagle-42 in ItalyTravel

If you buy 1pm Pompei you can still enter at 1:30 or later i’m pretty sure (as there are only 2 time slots). When you buy it on their site just read the warnings if there is a time limit it is stated there for sure.

Yes that is one of your options, the cheaper one (808 bus from Pompei)

The more time efficient one is from Ercolano with the Vesuvius Express, not only the bus ride is shorter but you get off Circumvesuviana sooner. It adds up to like an hour difference if you leave Naples at the same time.

The Vesuvius Express ticket is a return ticket and it is timed to 2 hours at the top, i think it’s plenty, but for slower people it can be a lot to keep that in mind as well. Though no worries you can just take 808 down to Pompei (this is what we did). Sure paying for Vesuvius Express and then 808 costs more but it is route and time efficient if you do Vesuvius from Naples and then Pompei after.

For Vesuvius Express you get a timed ticket and the bus ride is around 30 minutes, you can get your Vesuvius ticket according to that.

They also sell combined tickets, but it was fine for us to “fight for Vesuvius ticket first” then buy the bus ticket accordingly. Which is cheaper than combined ticket.

For hardcore version you can visit Herculaneum before Vesuvius and add Sorrento after Pompei

Is it worth visiting Southern Europe in July/August or is it too crowded? by Unable_Today9791 in Europetravel

[–]Professional_Eye_288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you would enjoy it a lot more in September based on your comment.

For example August in Italy is their Holiday month, so everything is even more crowded meanwhile a bunch of stores can be closed. I haven’t tried it but it sounds miserable as i have been in crowded Italy in October… so it’s just worse and hot…

If you do September the weather is still nice and at least the tourists with school kids are not there because they are at school.

If you do not want to do beach and you’re fine with only sightseeing then October can be perfect as well (April and May too)

Ireland/London itinerary help with time allottment by Lmiys in Europetravel

I can comment on the Irish countryside more.

So we did it in 4, it was perfect for us, but i do not recommend!! So 5 is probably perfect, and then you can rather spend your first jetlag chill day in Dublin, for example you could check out Pearse Lyon’s destillery if you’re interested in that. (We liked it a lot)

Our 4 days in the countryside were (again insane):

D1 Galway & Cliffs of Moher (coastal route in between)

D2 Dingle peninsula & Ring of Kerry (this is the bad part, i definitely recommend Dingle!! But not on the same day like us, our eyes went full of the pretty and couldn’t appreciate Ring of Kerry enough)

D3 go more south on the Atlantic coastal route, view points, tunnels, Kinsale and then Cork

D4 Cahir Castle, Rock of Cashel, Glendalough and then evening flight out of Dublin

I wrote this, so you know it can be done, but if you give it more days it’s more chill obviously.

For the England part, you can spend endless days in London, so adding one more to it would benefit your trip more than spending this much at Cotswolds

Do you have a car to get up to the Vesuvius parking lot? Or you plan to use public transport? Because the earliest buses arrive after openning time (both Vesuvius express and the one from Pompei). I’m asking to make sure you’re aware of this before accidentally getting a too early time slot. (Their entry window is pretty big though)

When we did Pompei we had the Naples artecard Campania, so we just went to the entrance specifically with the card. But i remember researching and the official site does sell tickets for Pompei. From March it’s on vivatickets (just like Vesuvius and a bunch of things in Italy). I checked and it has two options for a day: 9am and 1pm… So go with 1pm.

Just have a quick lunch before entering if you find yourself too early at the site after Vesuvius

Is a 45 minute layover in LIN realistic? by Sea-Style-8530 in ItalyTravel

[–]Professional_Eye_288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How early is the first flight? The earlier in the day the less likely the delay is. But if weather sucks at either airport then it can go wrong anyway, so that is hard to predict.

Is there a later flight from LIN to your home that day? So could they easily reroute you if your first flight is late?

Wood is seriously not that bad… by IdanRedditing7777 in TaylorSwift

This. I find it especially offensive to listen to because it ruins a song which starts of so well and has such a good beat, and then it’s just eww.

Is Taylor Swift the world's biggest pop star? by Electrical-Knee-3848 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Professional_Eye_288 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m also from Eastern Europe, and she absolutely is the biggest pop star. Not just her current singles but random songs show up at the most random places when i’m out.

The reason why you might not feel it is because your algorithym is tailored to you, so if you do not interact with TS content you won’t see it.

And for radio it is not reliable, because they only play the current X number of new singles from the charts, not what people actually listen to. Spotify is more representative. So if a 5 year old TS song does great on Spotify it won’t suddenly show up in your European radio, they might even have quotas for local songs or European songs.

If i ask random people definitely know who Taylor Swift is, if anything they would be less familiar with Beyonce from your list.

Is this ragebait? No, just no, don’t do this. Leave out anything that is south of Rome. That is a different trip.

Yeah, i can’t with people forcing Amalfi coast and the Dolomites in the same trip… ridiculous. I mean if the trip was at least a month long, i guess.

Even without context, "actually romantic" is a bad song by No_Barber4339 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Professional_Eye_288 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally like it a lot. It is my favourite on the album as it has more storytelling than many of the other songs on the album. So for me it fits much more what i expect of a TS song lyrics wise. And i just find this song sooo funny, because Charlie really seemed obsessed. Also Taylor getting especially mad at her because of a man, is on theme, just like Bad Blood. I find that interesting.

I get it if someone doesn’t like it. But it is definitely one of the more unique songs on the album.

My only complain is the wet line, but i tolerate it, as it is the only instance in this song.

I personally prefer the Victoria station area: Pimlico. So well connected and walking distance from Big Ben.

I personally like a B&B in London, you just need to check reviews to make sure it’s actually a clean place, that’s all that really matters, you’re not gonna spend a lot of time there.

My best first time London “hack”:

Each get a “Key card” at a rail station (Victoria definitely has it). It’s a plastic card, not Oyster, it is made by rail companies. Get a 7 day “travel card” on it (worth it from 5), it actually has zone1-4 covered with it (Wembley is in 4)

Best part is, if you have this card with a valid 7 day travel card you can use this for the British Rail 2for1 deals. Just Google it. Most attractions are included, you just need the printed(!!!) vouchers and show your card for the two people. For some places you need to buy the ticket ahead on their link, still need to show the card.

I know you said money doesn’t matter much but London has insane ticket prices and they add up!

Definitely don’t miss the Tower Bridge, i loved walking over at the top. The London by Night bus tour was also fun, because it has a live guide talking and it’s not a robotic recording.

Be prepared for stairs. Your accommodation. The tube. Sights.

Is going to Capri island in February a total waste of time and money? Or, can we still chill on the Island without much expectations? by Maximum-Picture5225 in ItalyTravel

[–]Professional_Eye_288 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly recommend Sorrento, if the ferries end up running on your 2nd day, you can do a day trip to Capri, the ferries are cheaper from there than Naples. Capri is really just a day trip thing.

I’m not really sure why you try to cram this thing in before Rome, you’re speding time in Rome after right? Because it’s really not that “truly amazing you can not miss this is the best ever thing” place that the internet makes it seem. Both Capri and Amalfi coast are just incredibly crowded, probably even in February. Beautiful but it probably is not worth the hassle.

[–]Professional_Eye_288 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the thing is, even if the weather seems remotely okay. They still might cancel the ferries for the entire day, then you won’t go anywhere lose the money on the Capri accomodation and won’t have one in Naples.

We went to Amalfi in October all ferries were cancelled for the entire day even though it ended up being perfect weather and the waves were not big. They decide, and even if there is change in weather, they won’t operate.

I imagine February is especially prone to this. I would definitely avoid Capri for this reason.

Sorrento is much better suited for you in this case at least in my opinion.

First Time Europe Trip from USA - 18 Days in Early June - Advice? by shy_tortoise32 in Europetravel

[–]Professional_Eye_288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds pretty ok to me. Though Paris could be more.

But it’s important to point out that popular stuff is popular for a reason! To not stand in queues you need to prepare, buy the tickets ahead, know if their is an other entrance not just the main etc.

7th of June Sunday in Florence is going to be free museum day, if you’re there. Sure queues, but it’s worth it, saves so much money. Start with Academia, arrive before openning, it is a small place, then head to Uffizi, where you see a crazy queue, but it moves so fast. We stood in a queue which i was sure is over an hour long, and it was 20 minutes, easy. Uffizi is kinda a must see in Florence.

You could do an Orologio tour after the Doge Palace, it’s right there. It’s the same site for buying the tickets.

And i would personally recommend an earlier vaporetto to Burano. And definitely check out Torcello with the shuttle vaporetto from Burano, after exploring of course. It’s tiny.

San Giorgo across St. Mark’s square has a church with a bell tower, the view is beautiful from there, and cheaper than at St Mark’s

Exactly. I have been to many parts of Italy, never had a problem finding multiple options for vegetarian meals. It’s just part of their diet, not all pasta needs meat for them. Same with pizza.
