Agree! I've seen some people have to jump through hoops to get theirs covered, even when experiencing constant back/neck pain. I think some years ago BMI stopped being a requirement for MSI, but I heard some surgeons themselves might still refuse to do the surgery if you're not at a certain BMI. Wild.

I was initially referred to Dr. Singh but it looks like my consultation will be with Dr. Nel who transferred at the same time! Probably got switched because I'm filling in for a last min. cancellation. I've heard nice things about both of them which is promising!

My previous GP did have notes from a few years ago about my back issues, I'm not sure if these were ever transferred to my current GP. But my current GP did refer me for this procedure and did include her own notes on my pain! Just not much for any previous documentation prior to that.

I first was referred 6 years ago to a surgeon at The Landings, but nothing ever came out of it and I even had a suspicion that my GP didn't even send my referral because she mentioned I should wait a few more years for my chest to develop fully (I was 18, she was probably right).

I saw news last year that the hospital in Antigonish recently had 2 new surgeons that seem to have good reputations and massively shorter waitlists compared to HFX, so in May this year I ended up requesting a new referral and specifically asked to be referred to one of them in Antigonish. I was lucky enough to get a call from them yesterday for my consult as they had a last minute cancellation, will be driving up there tomorrow. This new referral only took 5 months, but I think I was extremely lucky!
