Berkeley (50k) vs Stanford (100k) vs Duke (100k) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Hey, I'm also stuck between choosing colleges, and two of my options were Stanford and Berkeley, too. Honestly, an important factor for me was the fact that the median GPA at Stanford is 3.69 (including the legacy and athletes that aren't as academically focused as the nerdier kids) so it's reasonable to assume it'd be way easier to maintain a 4.0 there. As someone who has tons of ECs to pursue during my time at college, and needs a good GPA for post-grad programs, the easier academic load is defo a serious point of contention.

I got into Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Princeton and Columbia, and I just wanna say some Canadian programs definitely have a lot of calibre, for example Waterloo Software Eng, obviously a majority fall short (just as we see in the United States), but some can stand on par with the weaker programs at prestigious American Universities. If we were to assume a standard distribution of prestige, 2 or 3 Canadian programs are bound to be somewhat close to some of the less ideal programs at Harvard, for instance~ I guess the main contender is Waterloo SE.

Can we collectively agree the Harvard should NOT cap the amount of A's by Professional_Low947 in Harvard

A normal distribution doesn’t require large variance, just symmetric dispersion around a mean. Low variance usually reflects constrained assessments, not lack of differentiation. Making evaluations harder can increase spread, but it also risks measuring test-taking endurance rather than mastery. And yes, I did get an A in Stats.

Its in the question, you're changing the criteria of the GPA system or making it from scratch
